My Sim Moved, Family Inventory Halts Game
« on: July 30, 2012, 02:45:25 AM »
Hello! I created this username specifically to get help for this bug, because I couldn't find it elsewhere on the forums.

So my Sim moved from one house to another house in the same city. I have used the phone and computer to do this, during different attempts. When she moves to the new location, I wait for the move to complete and then enter Build/Buy mode. There, I redecorate her new home with items from her family inventory. When I try to return to live mode to save the game, it won't load. It doesn't freeze or crash, I can move the cursor and zoom around with the scrolling edge, when I hover over items it tells me what they are, but nothing (including live mode or build/buy) is clickable.

This continues indefinitely. I once let it sit for 30 minutes and it still acts like its loading. Is there any fix for this? I finally moved her, saved, had her go hang around town for the day and then returned home to try again. So now she is in a new home with no furnishings of any kind, because I can neither sell nor place anything in family inventory, which is everything she has from adventuring and so on.

I have Sims 3, all the expansion packs, no stuff packs, and only Sims 3 store content installed, no mods, no user generated content. I think my computer is fine, there is just some kind of glitch? Did I make a big mistake saving after the move instead of re-moving over and over?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!!

I've had something similar happen with one of my games.  The family inventory was SO big that it would just crash the game every time I went to try to play the family. It was very frusterating!!  It was one of my first and favorite families to play. And they moved quite abit.

I'm not exactly sure how I "fixed" the problem other than move them out without home and sell furniture. If you select the Sell Furniture option it sells most, if not everything in the family inventory. Then they're ready to be moved to where ever you want them, and be playable again!! I'm not sure why this happened, unless it was due to so much stuff in the family inventory. Also, try deleting stuff in their personal inventories, as full family and personal inventories causes issues with loading game saves.

I hope this helps, :)

Hm, moving with 'sell furniture' didn't get rid of anything in my family inventory and the new apartment I was able to access my family inventory with everything intact, then I tried moving back to the apartment-in-question and the same bug happened. Obviously the bug has to do with that particular lot, which admittedly I edited with cheats to make prettier. Something must have gone awry with the lot, I'll delete it and replace it with the stock lot and see how that works.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm sorry the suggestion didn't help. It helped my family that had tons of furniture in their inventory.  I had to move and sell their furniture a couple of times though, if I remember correctly.

I hope your idea works. Let us know how it works out?
