I think you did a good job with this update. You managed to weave the humor in with the serious emotions, and I think it's suitable for the Bunches.  :D

Marc doesn't need passwords. He's just that awesome. :P And I like how you handled this update, made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. (I've been reading this since it began, long time fan here.)

Marc is just that awesome. He is so much fun to play and has shaped up to be one of my favorite household members. Thank you for your kind words. I was a little worried given that Iris is usually the one with the fun updates. Glad you enjoy. :)

Thanks. Mixing drama and light humor has never been a strong suit of mine. It's usually one or the other, but with Iris it had to be both. At first I was going to switch it and have Holly as the writer, but that would have been two very serious chapters in a row...and I needed to lighten things up. :)

And now, onward!

Chapter 58 - Babies, Blazes, and Birthdays

Before I get into anything else, let me first introduce you to the newest member of the family. Everyone, this is Felicia Anne Sekemoto, my brand new and ridiculously adorable niece.

Congratulations, Kenji and Karina. She has to be one of the prettiest babies I've ever seen.

All right, I have to brag on my brother. Kenji just got promoted to pastry chef at the restaurant and was recently lauded in the newspaper as the hot new chef of the year. His whole cake shop idea hasn't gotten off the ground quite yet, though. Right now he has more important things on his mind, namely 2 a.m. feedings and diaper changes.

Welcome to fatherhood, little bro. ;)

My two little sweethearts had their first birthday a few months after their cousin was born.

Other than the hair Hadrian and Celestine are nearly identical. Both of them have inherited the trademark Sekemoto eyes and nose and their grandma Bella's striking amber eye color.

Aren't they just precious? My sweet babies...

Andrew barely made it home in time for their birthday. From what he was told his unit will remain in Sunset Valley at least through the new year. I could just hug his commanding officer for that. (I would anyway—it's uncle Mike). It's not easy being a soldier's wife; I miss my husband terribly when he is deployed, and now that the twins are at the potty-training stage, well...

Let's just say that I'm glad Andrew will be around for a while. He's such an amazing daddy.

And I'm such a lucky girl. :)

I finally was able to go back to work a few months after the munchkins were born. After nearly ten months of leave I was anxious to get back into the swing of things. It was nice to return to the firehouse, even if my first emergency hit a little too close to home.

I had to rescue my mother-in-law.

Thankfully Bella pulled through without injury, but my heart would not stop racing for hours after the fact. I don't even want to think about what could have happened if I had arrived only a few minutes later. Now more than ever I'm convinced that I made the right choice in profession, even if Mom and Grandma continue to worry about me on a daily basis.

Grandma is doing decently well, all things considered. The twins' birthday was particularly bittersweet for her since it also marked the one-year anniversary of Granddad's passing. Every day seems to get a little easier, though. She just loves being around the babies, and they just love being around their Nana.

Celestine in particular seems to have taken a shining to her. While she's not exactly talking yet, she does babble something along the lines of “Nanananananana” whenever Grandma is around. It's really cute. :)

So between the twins and my new niece both Mom and Grandma are in nooboo nirvana...and it looks like aunt Darlene is about to join in on the fun again as well.

No, you're not seeing things. Iris is pregnant.

For years she and Timothy swore that they only wanted the one child. They were perfectly happy just having Marcus, and with their son nearing his eighteenth birthday it seemed a foregone conclusion that they would not be having any more children. Fate, it seemed, had drastically different plans. I could say that I was surprised...but that would be a total lie. I mean really, as romantic as the two of them are I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. :P

Timothy is completely over the moon about it all.

Iris...not so much, at least at first.

She was absolutely miserable for the first three months. And I thought I had it bad with the twins.

Once the morning sickness finally subsided Iris was much more cheerful about the whole thing, though she was definitely a bit shocked that she was in her mid-forties and expecting a baby. “It runs in the family,” aunt Darlene said. She of course had Amaya late, and apparently great-grandma Judy had her youngest even later.

Life is about to get that much more hectic. As granddad used to say, “Life is crazy if you're a Bunch.” Funny how that still holds true even after a couple of generations.

Before we knew it it was time for another pair of birthdays—this time my younger cousins...or however they're related to me. :P

Wait...didn't I write about their birthdays once before? When they turned five, I think. Wow, that seems like forever ago. I can't believe that they're grown up. (Heck, sometimes I can't believe that I'm grown up.)

Graduation, as it has always been in this household, was a hectic affair. Trying to get thirteen people anywhere at the same time is a feat in itself, but then add the fact that two of them are toddlers and need all manner of diaper bags and pacifiers for the four-hour event. Top that off with Amaya refusing to leave until she had every last hair in place and you have one heck of a crazy morning on your hands.

It was all worth the trouble though...even if Andrew had to change a messy diaper in the middle of it.

Marcus, not surprisingly, graduated as valedictorian and was voted “Most Likely to Hack the Military Base”. Iris and Timothy had a good laugh about it, that is until they noticed Marcus's rather guilty-looking grin.

“You didn't.”

“I'm not saying a word.”

Amaya was only slightly miffed that she didn't make valedictorian. She was far more excited about winning the “Most Artistic” award.

Timothy and Iris were the typical proud parents, as were aunt Darlene and uncle Malcolm. I think that my aunt and uncle were mostly relieved, actually. Now that Amaya is finally out of school they will be able to do more in the way of travel. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they already have a vacation booked.

(Edit: Yep—two weeks in Hidden Springs. - Darlene)

Marcus wasted no time in making his career choice. Not two days later he was at the precinct attending a seminar on investigation techniques. He hopes to be able to get his Private Investigator's license within a few months. In the meantime he has been hitting the study material pretty hard...

...that is when my step-cousin isn't around. I'm not one to speculate, but I'm thinking this might be going somewhere good. :)

As for Amaya, well...I'm not exactly sure what's going on with her, actually. She's been pretty quiet lately and we rarely see her except for when she is going over to the Frio place or when Roman comes over here.

Mostly Amaya just hangs out in her room at her drafting table, sketching fashion ideas and making heart-shaped doodles. Believe it or not she has actually made some money from her sketches (the doodles not so much). Beyond that is pretty much anyone's guess.

Ah well, it's not my business to pry.

And on that note, I hear a very unhappy toddler screaming from the nursery. Sounds like it's time for another diaper change. Man will I be glad when they're potty trained...

Later,

Zoey

---

(A/N: Wow, are the Sekemoto genes ever strong, and apparently so is Holly's hair color. :)

Iris had the worst morning sickness I've seen yet in any of my saves. She was ill a total of six times. The worst I had seen previously was Zoey with four, but otherwise everyone else has been just once or twice.)

Ditto.  I'm getting lost in the cast though.  Could you update the family tree you posted earlier?  I plead old age and poor eyesight but Iris looks so much like Darlene I was surprised until I read further.  Those midlife crisis / change of life babies.  You just have to be careful ;)

Two Worlds, One Heart - Updated Family Tree

Out of the blue one day Timothy got the wish to "Have a Child with Iris". I figured what the heck. :P

I totally understand. Sometimes I get a bit tripped up as well given how much Darlene looks like her two daughters. Other than having smaller lips and a slightly different nose Iris is a dead ringer for her mother, and Amaya is even worse with the only real difference being her hair color.

As requested, here is the latest family tree...or rather two of them, since the family has gotten too large to fit on a single 800x600 graphic. Thanks for suggesting this! :)

Ethan Bunch, now deceased (sniff!), married Holly Alto. They had one child, Elysia, who married Judd Sekemoto, the son of Leighton Sekemoto and Zelda Mae.

Elly and Judd have two children, oldest Zoey, and youngest Kenji. Zoey married Andrew Goth, son of Mortimer Goth and Bella Bachelor, and has two children, twins Celestine and Hadrian. Kenji married Karina Langerak, daughter of Amit Gentry (immigrant townie) and Rose Langerak, who is the daughter of Parker Langerak and Sandi French. They have one daughter named Felicia.

Kenji, Karina, and their daughter are no longer in the household, but live right next door. :)

Now for the other side:

Darlene Bunch married Malcolm Landgraab and had three children, oldest Iris, middle Devon, and youngest Amaya.

Iris married Timothy Sw0rd (son of Cycl0n3 Sw0rd and Emma Hatch) and has one son Marcus with a second child on the way. Marcus is currently dating Eugenia Sekemoto, who is the daughter of Xander Clavell and Destiny Glenn (immigrant townie). She was then adopted by Sam Sekemoto after he married her mother, and thus would be Judd's step-niece.

Devon married former paper girl Nadia Cope and has three children, oldest Electra, middle Angelia, and youngest Zachariah. Note: This is a bit inaccurate, because Angelia is now a child and Zach a toddler, but I don't have any decent pics of them at those age stages...

Amaya is currently dating Roman Frio, son of Zachary Craig (immigrant townie) and Lana Frio, who is the daughter of Connor Frio and River McIrish.

Devon, Nadia, and their three children live at the Landgraab Estate and are no longer part of the household.

Hope this clarifies things a bit. :)

Just caught up with your wonderful story, Raia.
Ethan's demise was very sad. I'm so glad he was given the time to say goodbye to everyone. You always write beautifully, but that chapter was exceptional.
Welcome to Celestine, Hadrian and Felicia! There's nothing like happy nooboo gurgles to brighten the moment.
Marcus always makes me smile. :)

Thank you. Ethan's passing was very challenging for me to write and I found myself in tears for most of it. That he passed on the same day the twins were born was just so surreal.

The nooboos are so much fun so far. I just finally saw Felicia as a toddler and she is just adorable!

Marcus will be playing a much larger role in these next couple of chapters. He has become one of my favorites. I've already saved him to my library just to make sure I don't lose the guy once the story is complete. :)

Yeah, there are a lot of characters to keep track of...and all because I don't like letting my favorites go. :P Thanks so much!

I've been reading for a while, and it's great! Wonderful writing!

I am very glad that you are enjoying it!

Next up: A bit of drama surrounding one of the two recent graduates, a birth, an engagement, and a touch of toddler adorableness. There has been a bit of a delay, and for that I apologize. We have a visitor in town right now and things have been a bit on the crazy side. Thank you all so much for reading!

Two Worlds, One Heart - Chapter 59

Chapter 59 – The Journey Forward

Greetings.

I'm still here. Managing as best as I can given the circumstances. As you can probably imagine these last couple of years have not been easy. You never get over losing someone that you love, rather you merely get used to the fact that they're no longer there. Some days that is far easier said than done, but overall I do have to say that things are getting a bit better.

That being said...I miss Ethan so much. There are some nights when I swear I feel his arms around me. It's comforting...yet so fleeting. I awaken to find his side of the bed still cold and empty.

He would have just adored our great-grandchildren. In some way I know that Ethan is still watching them, seeing them grow. Celestine and Hadrian are two-and-a-half now, and they are the lights of my life.

Truly, they were what kept me going after losing my beloved. For every tear there was a childish laugh, for every sob a giggle. On those days when I find it hardest to cope, it seems like Celestine is always there with her innocent voice, “I wuv you, Nana.”

Oh how I love my great-grandbabies.

But life, as it is wont to do, trudges ever onward...and I suppose I must as well. Much has happened in the last several months that bears mention, starting with what was probably one of the more disconcerting situations we have had to deal with in quite a long time.

Amaya disappeared, suddenly and without warning mere weeks after graduation.

She hadn't come to breakfast one morning, and when Darlene went to check her room she, her clothing, and her easel were absent. On her bed was a simple handwritten note: Gone to follow my dreams. Please don't worry about me. Love you. - Amaya

Panic quickly began to set in; she called over to the Frio place and surely enough, Roman was also missing. The evidence was crystal clear; the two of them had run away together...but to where? Everyone sprang into action. Darlene immediately filed a missing persons report, and both Malcolm and Timothy started making phone calls. True to form, Marcus took to the computer and put out a trace on both Amaya and Roman's cell phones, then hacked their e-mail accounts to see if there was any indication of where the two of them had gone.

Two days went by with little progress, and Malcolm and Darlene were starting to fear the worst. Finally, later that night, an e-mail came in to Malcolm's inbox:

Mom, Dad, I'm sorry if I have worried you. I just didn't think you would understand, that you would try to stop me from leaving. I need to find my own path. Seek my own star. Follow my dreams. Roman and I have been talking about this for a long time. He longs to be a movie director. I want to make my mark in the fashion world. The more we thought about it, the more we realized that staying in Sunset Valley just wasn't in the cards.

Roman and I are in Bridgeport, and have decided to marry. We exchanged rings in front of the fountain downtown, as you will see in the attached photograph.

Don't worry about us. With the trust from grandpa we were more than able to afford an apartment. Roman already has a job at the studio and has the privilege of working under Emmy Starr. How awesome is that? I have taken a job as a stylist in the local salon while I'm working on my design portfolio.

I love you, Mom and Dad. Please don't be angry at me. Here's my new phone number. You can call me anytime.

Hugs,

Amaya

Darlene immediately called the number and spent over an hour speaking with her daughter. There were no hard feelings, only love and concern intermixed with tears and a bit of laughter. Amaya needed to spread her wings and fly on her own, and while neither my sister nor brother-in-law particularly liked the way she went about it, they had no choice but to respect her decision. They have always liked Roman and didn't even mind the fact that Amaya was now married, though Darlene did say that she would have liked to be there.

Amaya dear, we wish you the absolute best of luck. You and Roman are welcome to come back and visit at any time.

You have a new niece that you might want to meet. :)

No sooner had the drama begun to subside the household shifted right back into baby mode. Iris's last few weeks of pregnancy were relatively calm despite what had happened. While the morning sickness had subsided months before she was still quite miserable with back pain, and no amount of meditation seemed to help this time around. Finally, exactly three weeks to the day after Amaya left, Iris went into labor.

Madeleine Elise made her debut a few hours later—all nine pounds and six ounces of her. No wonder why Iris was having such a struggle with backaches! She spent the first few days resting while Timothy took over most of the parenting duties, which he did not mind in the least. My nephew-in-law is completely and hopelessly smitten by his little daughter.

Madeleine's big brother was a bit more leery at first. For most of his life Marcus has been accustomed to being the baby of the household, and as such has never had much in the way of interaction with very young sims. The first time he was asked to babysit a few months later he about had a panic attack.

“But I...I've never even held a baby before!”

“She's not going to break, just be careful.” Iris replied.

It took a bit of convincing, but Marcus finally got up the nerve to hold his baby sister. “H...Hey there. Wow, you're cute.” Madeleine responded by grabbing his chin and gurgling.

“See? Not so bad.”

“No. She's...really soft. And sweet,” Marcus sighed. He looked at his mother. “You and Dad will be back by eight, right? I have a meeting with a client at eight-fifteen.”

“Yes, I promise. And if for some reason we are delayed, I'm sure your grandma wouldn't mind looking after Madeleine for a while.”

“All right, I guess...” Marcus looked at his mother warily. “So wait, why can't grandma just watch her all night?”

Iris's answer was simple. “You could use the practice.”

Marcus wasn't entirely certain what to make of that.

He has really come into his own in the last several months. It didn't take long at all for Marcus to qualify for his private investigator's license, and since then hardly a day goes by when he isn't working on a case.

Yes, he got the fedora that he had been wanting. I think that was half the reason why he chose this profession rather than joining the police force. Marcus does look rather dashing in his new uniform, something that has not gone unnoticed by a certain young lady...

A certain young lady who is about to become a part of the family. :)

Just over a year after graduation, under the light of a full moon, Marcus proposed to his beloved Eugenia. He bucked tradition entirely by presenting her with an iridium and luminorious gem ring instead of the more common gold and diamond band. (He had a bit of help, apparently, from his uncle Devon.)

Her reaction says it all.

Everyone was quite ecstatic at the news and welcomed Eugenia into the family with open arms. She moved into Marcus's room a couple of weeks later, and from what it sounds like the two of them are planning to stay here, at least for the time being. I know that Darlene in particular is happy about this arrangement. She is already wanting great-grandchildren...to which Marcus gently reminded her that they were still only nineteen and had plenty of time to think about that sort of thing.

Right now the household is buzzing with excitement with the upcoming wedding. Iris has already started coordinating with Eugenia's mother Destiny about wedding plans, and Marcus, wisely, is keeping out of it.

He has more important things on his mind, namely his bride-to-be. He could care less about the ceremony aspect of it. All that Marcus wants is to be with Eugenia, and all that Eugenia wants is to be with him. I look at the two of them and see how Ethan and I once were. Young and so much in love.

Treasure that love, now and always...and never, ever let it go.

Until next I write, pleasant journeys to all of you.

Holly

How utterly sweet of Ethan to come visit his wife. She's getting over her loss. That's good. Maybe his presence helps.
Marcus is so totally likeable for everything, not in the least how he deals with little Maddy, and then - on a whole different level - with Eugenia. I so understand he has become one of your favourite Sims to play. He certainly is one of my favourite to read about!  ;D

Thanks! It was crazy, actually. He's the only one in the household who hasn't had any autonomous interactions with Maddie. It's either autonomous chess playing, computer chat, or being romantic with Eugenia. (He's almost as bad as his grandparents as far as autonomous flirting goes. Malcolm and Darlene are STILL constantly popping romantic wishes.)

As far as his own nooboos...well...I'm not saying anything just yet. ;)

The screenshot with Ethan holding Holly was adorable.  Is he a playable ghost?

I have a separate save file where I brought Ethan back as a playable ghost. This was mainly just for screenshots, though I did have some fun rekindling their romance again. :)

Thank you. :) Marc really has taken on a life of his own, and so far I'm really liking Eugenia. This is the first time I've ever played the Investigator career too, so it's hilarious to see where some of his cases are taking him.

Next up: Into every life a little rain must fall. The joy of an engagement is eclipsed by the loss of someone very dear (who is not in the household...thought I'd clarify that right away). Elysia coos over her trio of grandbabies, a young couple ties the knot, and a sudden emergency leaves one of the family members only barely clinging on to life...

Thanks for reading, and all the best!
