I am curious about which skills suite well with each other to be combined. If you know anything, please discuss them here so we can learn from it.

A few examples that probably already are coffered somewhere are:

Cook:
Cooking, gardening, fishing, inventing. No explanation needed. Exept for that inventing will inventually let you build the harvester, which will let you collect the fruits faster.

Nectar connoisseur:
Nectar making, gardening, fishing, handyness, inventing. Fishes used to increase the quality of the vegetables, vegetables used for the nectar of course and the handyness is used for the nectar machine improveness. Inventing is used for the same reason as for coocking.

Gem collector
Athletic, martial art, collecting. Use martial art to unlock the ability of carving gems out of spacerocks, athetic is for fullfilling the body builder challenge so you never get tired of carving gems (unless the energy bar drops to zero) and collecting increases itself after you pickup the gems. After finding 10 different types of gems you unlocked the heartshape cut form, and after finding even more gems you will unlock other gem cut types as well.

You only unlock other gem cuts when you send your gems in to be cut and you can find this information in the guide, http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/skills/collecting/gems.php

Also note that you do not carve gems out of space rocks, but that you break space rocks and a uncut gem will appear from the broken space rock.

Wow very cool time saver on gardening using the harvester. Despite it's name (duh), I didn't really think of its application in gardening. I'll have to add that immediately :)

Haha, nice! But please mention the bad mootlet your sim can get, too, from spinning around with that thing. Their fun meter will drop to zero and they will throw up in the toilet before being able to do anything else. You should give them some really nice things to do after that to make them happy again.
So the harvester can harvest fruit and vegetables quicker, the downside is the time you need to spend on recovering your sims after that.

What if you got a SimBot or Mummy (possibly a playable ghost too) to use the Harvester?

Test and tell! No really, I have no idea. I assume that they will suffer the same though.
