How do you get Sims to move in?
« on: July 20, 2012, 03:52:19 PM »
A lot of people who are doing dynasties have figured out a simple way to initially get that cook/gardener/painter that is needed to help fulfill requirements.  I am trying to do a new dynasty, (no I'm not giving up on the old failed one, just want one for the HOF), and so I thought I'd give this a shot since I have what I think are the perfect trio in Lucky Palms.  The three old ladies who live together each have one of the skills I'll need and since they are elder will die off quickly leaving room for the others who must come along.  I tried to make friends with one of them and after a lot of effort and time, (me getting impatient as it took sooo long!), I finally got her to best friend status but the ask to move in thing never showed up!  Instead, she wanted to be my romantic interest!  YIKES!  How do you get them to the point you get the ask to move in thing?
What?  Grannies can't play games?

It usually shows up under friendly interactions when it says Sim A thinks Sim B is being sociable or possibly friendly.

Right.  Make sure you're using friendly interactions for it and not romantic interactions.

Also make sure you're at your house. I've found that the interaction shows up at "good friend," and often shows up just before they have to go home (very frustrating).

It's not working.  None of the people I've tried it with ever get that request option in our interactions and I've gotten two of them well past good friend.  It's just not worth it to me it seems.  Guess I'll have to restart because this is hopeless.  Back to the normal find a guy and get married.  At least he won't get away!  lol  I just wish I knew why it doesn't show up.

I can't imagine why it's not showing up for you.  The next time I play my DecaDynasty, I'll test it with some of my Sims who have a lot best friends and see if it comes up for me.

It always works for me when I get a good friend to think my sim is being sociable. To make them think your sim is being sociable, you'll have to do a few friendly interactions first. "Gossip" or "Give Gift" usually work for me. "Ask about day" works, too. Just keep socializing and the option will eventually appear.

I have found that if any flirting has gone on, it doesn't show up for me either.

Even if they are at best friend status you will still have to go through a few friendly interactions before the option ask to move in comes up.
Yeah if they think your Sim is flirting with them the option to move in does not come up(or does not for me)When that happens I either let them go home and invite back later to start again or get someobody else in the house to start chatting to them and then invite them to move in.

Also make sure you're at your house.

They don't have to be at your house. My sim has asked people at the dance club, at the park and even at the other sim's home. She also has had other sim's spontaneously ask her to move in with them. If I have her say "No", the relationship drops.

I agree I have had the option to ask to move in wherever I am talking to the Sim in question. The first time I played a legacy in the Sims the option ask to move in came up and I thought that my Sim was asking to move in with someone else.I then clicked everybody in the other Sims family to move in too. I recall being quite irritated when five Sims moved into my very small house as I was expecting to move into the Roomies much nicer home.

I was playing a game and wanted to have the chance for Matt Hamming to move in. But, he started dating someone else, so my sim took another guy. She invited Matt to the wedding; but, he didn't show up and immediately broke off his own engagement. The next day he invited mt sim's husband, who he barely knew over. Eventually the option came up "ask to move-in", so Marco asked him. Big mistake! First thing Matt did when he moved in was to start flirting with the wife!

OMG that is too funny!  Who says Sims aren't real and don't have a mind of their own?

I dropped the first game and gave up trying to get folks to move in with that one.  I think the romantic interest thing just ruined it for everyone I tried, even though I was only a romantic interest with one person.  My next shot was to try to get someone to marry, but I was perfectly happy with just having him move in.  (Darren Dreamer)  He turned into a vamp in the middle of a pillow fight!  arrrrrgggghhhh.  I've deleted my files and will start from scratch.  I'm determined to get this move in thing to work!

Apologies for the necromancy, but I found this thread helpful and wanted to report my findings in case it might be helpful to someone else.

I recently restarted a dynasty, and was having major issues getting the "Ask to move in" interaction to appear on the menu.  A couple of posts in this thread mentioned being "sociable" - and that was the key for me.  When my founder (finally) did an interaction that Agnes found to be "sociable" (rather than okay, amusing, alluring, etc.), the option appeared.  The one that worked for me was the friendly hug, under the Friendly menu.  The relationship was good friends / romantic interest / girlfriend.

I have also read that sometime you have to do a few other "Ask..." interactions before "Ask to Move In" comes up. This is because there is only so much space allotted to "Ask..." interactions for whatever reason and you have to get the others out of the way.
