Scrap Collecting made easy?
« on: June 06, 2010, 02:25:53 AM »
Once my Inventor hit level 6, the option to detonate things became available...  So, I went to the junk yards, dug around, and blew up the heaps/salvage for extra scrap.   When I was done there, I went home and found that I could blow up things around my house - including my car.   Curious, I saved my game and went to my neighbor's house, who parks their car outside...   boom!    The 4-Everything van blew up into 4 piles of 42 scrap each.    Continuing down the street, I found a Speedster...  it blew up into 4 piles of 590 scrap each!   Seems like the more expensive cars yield more scrap!  Needless to say, "The Scrap Collector" challenge was completed, lol.

-I have not yet checked to see if any relationships were ruined because of the car-bombings (I did it at night when no one saw me, just in case)
-Sims seemed to replace their cars as if nothing happened... bug/glitch?  Or do they simply buy new ones?

More testing needed... ;D

A speedster for about $2400 worth of scrap... oh my. But so convenient to collect. That is wonderful, I'll go do some car bombing myself.  I'll have to add that to the guide for the ruthless folk out there ;)

And I've noticed that once stolen, they don't replace the cars -- kinda takes the fun out of being a klepto.

I've actually had them replace their own cars, but it's so expensive that the rich families may not even afford it. Then you could try the familyfunds cheat. :)

Warning: Blowing up things that don't belong to you may cause the city to levy fines on you; that is, expect a huge bill in the mail soon.

samoht04, those are amazing shots! I love how the robot has the "ready to go to bed" bubble at the end.

I am surprised he was tired, just a night of Inventing shouldn't make him tired!  :D

Hmm, what happens if you have the no bills LTR?
Diplomatic immunity, or has EA thought of that? ::)

I was at the junk yard and someone had parked their Margaret Vaugester in the parking space - I don't know who it belonged to but I blew it up and got about 2,300 scrap (haven't had to go back since heh). Thankfully I didn't get a fine!

With all this 'not getting fines' it's hard to confirm that having the detonation challenge completed will reduce the likelihood of that happening. That's why it's not yet specified in the inventing guide, but I really want to know...

While the game was loading I got a "tip" that Luck and something else (I forget -- started with a D and was similar to evilness) would reduce the chance of being fined for blowing up "public property".
