Help Please game is acting strangely.
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:34:15 PM »
I have been having trouble with my game.

I posted previously because my sim was naked.  I now have other odd behaviour, such as the guitar spinning on the end of my sims arm.

Most responses both here and in the Sims community site blamed CC, but, I have never downloaded anything.

However, I checked as best I could through my user files.  As I could not find any evidence of the CC, I did a factory reset and I ditched all my user content files, starting  absolutely fresh on a new game.

I still have the problems, in my new game, which started after an update a few days ago.

I noticed that when I started my factory reset game yesterday there was another small update.  Would this have been correct, or could it have been something that should not have been there?

I intend doing a complete uninstall and reinstall later in the week, when I have time, and if no other solution can be found in the meantime.

I am very concerned about this, worried about the possibility of CC sneaking onto my system.

Incidently, I did a full virus scan and a CCleaner just prior to the reset and again immediately after.

The only way that CC can 'sneak' into your game is through the exchange. If you download a lot from the exchange, or a world, then you could get CC. Sometimes builders may not realise that they have included CC in their build - it's very easy to do. I found it very difficult to build without my store content for the building competition and had to make a whole separate folder.

If you did a factory reset, then yes, the update should be there. Personally I keep getting one for my store content, and I've just given up on it, because it keeps showing up. Might have something to do with the way I install them all though.

Down to your problem. I don't know what could be causing it without more information. Is the guitar always spinning on their arm? Or only when they are playing? Overall it sounds like you may have a graphics card issue. You could try updating your drivers and see if that helps.

Normally, the spinning guitar is fixed with reset code:  Ctrl+Shift+C then ResetSim FirstName LastName.

Also, I'm moving this to the Technical Help board.  And Wai, please try to make your subject lines as specific as possible.

Thank you Chuckles_82 and Pam,

This is making a lot more sense.

I'm relieved to know that, in spite of so much insistance that the naked sim problem is bad CC, that the problem is not CC as I just could not see how it could have got there.  The spinning guitar is only when playing and although I have used resert sim, it comes back each time she plays.

However, I had a new, more powerful graphics card fitted about a month ago because the old one was not coping after installing Pets.  The game came up with the message, after the factory reset, that the card was unrecognised and my settings had been set to high.  As all seemed well, I thought there was no problem.

I'll try tweaking the settings, perhaps lowering them will help, if not, I guess I'll have to put up with the oddities until I can save enough from my pension to buy yet another graphics card.

Thanks again.  (I feel foolish for not thinking about the card myself :o)

Wai, here is a link with a list of compatible graphic cards
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_System_Requirements

It looks to me yours is not supported, but I'm not good with technical stuff.
Maybe there is something you can do to help your card.
Turn down all the settings to low may help.

Thank you for the link, loveSims,

You're quite right, sadly, it is a "no" right the way across.

I have turned the graphics down to medium already, I'll try low for the time being as I can't afford to buy a new card right now.  My son was so pleased when he fitted this card for me, he'll be devastated that he got the wrong one.

I'm really sorry. :( I hope you can at least play. How many expansions have you installed?

Thank you loveSims, yes, it's still playable, and at least I know why I'm getting strange effects.  Lowering the graphics seems to have cured the worst, the nakedness  ;D.  And, my son has just offered to buy me another card at the end of the month, so, all's well that ends well.

It's wonderful how people on this site are so willing to help too.  Thank you again.

That is great news! Your son must tell it is for sims3 and if it don't work, he will take it back.
My daughter's friend help me with my card and it works great.
It is a nvidia Gts 450. Your son must just check if your power supply enough is,
