I was glad to see this poll as the one with what expansion pack do you like left out the aspect of like the town, but don't like the expansion pack, or visa versa and what about the worlds.
For me order of favorites is:
1). Moonlight Falls -- It feels like home in a lot of ways. The hills surrounding the area, the river that flows through the town and a beautiful lake.
I am fastinated with the paranormal aspect; love to read paranormal romances and so this was a plus for me. Not too wild about the weres, a lousy protrayal of them; they look too tame when they shift, the stupid walking around and the scratching on the furniture, that is a cat, not a dog. A dog would chew, but scratch?!
I love the large lots that can be built on, and although there too many community lots, it isn't that hard to change them to residental lots. And plenty of room to add more lots if needed. I love the open area between the houses, not packed together like they are in SV. The careers, alchemy, playing faries, gathering are all pluses. I have yet to play a witch but didn't like the weres so won't be playing that again. At least not as my main sim.
2) and 3) are a tie -- Riverview is one because it is the first town I played that I really liked. Sunset Valley was okay, but when I played RV, that was it, I hardly ever play SV unless it is to start a new sim to have as a mate for another town. Riverview, the river again, as in MF, is a plus due to the Ohio river less than half a mile from where I live. I can look out and see hills from my front windows and hills from the back, and RV is the same, there are hills all around. The people are friendly, not nearly so many who are weird or just plain mean. A couple of great sims for mates; George Dean is my favorite to have as a mate for my sims. He produces such beautiful children, and even if I don't have them be athletic they still want to work out. It usually takes the third generation before I have trouble finding mates for my sims decendants, and sometimes later. Unlike in SV where the offspring of my founder family can't seem to find a mate at all, or at what I see as a decent one.
Monte Vista -- it is a tie because again of the environment and the people. I haven't played there a lot in the aspect of trying to find a mate for my sim or their offspring, but the people there are friendly. I love the river, the hills and the whole atmosphere is just welcoming.
I hate the lots though, they are too small, to many of weird sizes and very little room to add extra lots. Most of the houses, even the lower priced ones, are real nice and some just a lot of fun to work with. But the houses with the breaking up of sections, that is a putoff on some of the homes. I can just see a sim leaving a bedroom in one area having to walk across an open walkway to get to the kitchen and dinning. And a HUGE waste of space in a lot of the homes.
But the environment, the townies, the river and ocean all make it worthwhile and I enjoy redoing the homes so that is a plus.
As for the others
Sunset Valley, it was okay but it more often than not boring. The only thing I like about it is the park and the plaza area, the strip of stores where sims can meet and chat, flirt and make friends is wonderful. The Bisto is a plus that you can acutally see people sitting out and eating, and chat with them, a great place to meet.
But, I can't stand how close the houses are together, the limited space to add new lots and that there are very few lots of 40x40 or bigger. The townies are either crazy, mean or just too weird to find a mate for my sim. Ended up finding an NPC for a mate, Grady at the elixer store.
Pets -- Apploosa Plains? what plains, there is a flat section of land but that isn't plains, not on top of a hill. There are hills all around, which I normally like, but not when it is supposed to be plains. I have a hard time finding sims there also, so it became one of my least favorite places and the pets were a royal pain. I never reinstalled it when I had to do a total reinstall. If I could have all of the items, clothes, furniture and such without the critters I wouldn't mind reinstall the town, but . . .
Aurora Skies -- I had such great hopes for that town but was disappointed in it. There are hills, but not what I like, it was dark and dreary to me. I know that many like it, and see it as an opportunity to do a redo of a town, but it was just too depressing for me to visit. The only plus is the items that came with it, the education center, the plants and other items. I had bought it with the AS as a bundle, thinking that MV would be okay and I am glad; I don't feel as if the purchase of AS was a total loss.
It will be interesting to see what changes a couple of months from now after Dragon Valley and Island Paradise have been played some.
