I'm really glad to be able to have a few hours to really concentrate on building - the Old Town is now nearly complete, bar a couple of residential lots and furnishing some of the community lots. I prefer the new terrain to the grey slate rocks...

OK, last update for the day, I think it's time to go outside and do weekend stuff  ;D

I've added a few buildings to the new part of town - the gym, behind the stadium and next to the sports bar; and a couple of residential lots. One of them is just a remodel of an EA house, but I think it looks good up there on the cliff.

I really like the island! :) And I like the idea of other deserted islands in the distance!

Wow DeLouche your world is coming along really well! I'm so pleased. Nice use of the distant terrain by the way, I tend to to steer clear of it. Of course you know I'll be more than happy to test when you are ready.
Quick tip: you don't have to flatten all your lots in CAW, even though it is easier to do so. Depending on the look you are going for, you can still place a Lot on a slopping land, then even out the parts you need in EIG. Or use a foundation for the building, then you won't have to flatten the terrain first.

Thanks Dextra! I've decided that I definitely like the other islands, so they're staying :) And thanks so much Krrank - I really appreciate it, as your tutorials made it all possible! Some lots I am doing like that, although I'm trying to get most of them right in CAW... And will definitely take up your offer of testing :)

Anyway, the last couple of days have been mostly furnishing... so here are a couple of quick shots of the library...

First the cafe and children's section:

And here's the reception area in the gym:



And an overhead shot of the pool and first floor, complete with dojo, dance studio, and machine area (please forgive the grid lines and the lighting circles)



Oh, and what the hey, here's the most recent full-island shot - it's filled out so much, I'm very pleased :) Oh yeah, and I built a castle :D Don't think I'll stick with the white stone, it's a bit bright, but I like it otherwise :)

It looks good - If you're going to change it, you could try and make the stone match the rocks in the area surrounding it? That way it would look like it was built from the rocks around it.

A few more buildings done... a couple of houses, including a cute little modern starter, and the vampire lounge... Plus a bunch of spawners. The small animal spawners don't seem to be on the list of spawners in CAW; does anyone know if they'll just appear? Or will they need to be added in Edit in Game?

I don't believe the small animal spawners truly matter, In Eygpt there was a ton of small animals and my sims were constantly watching them. So unless in a patch the vacation worlds have been updated (doubtful...) the animals can come out of other spawners like deer and wild horses.

Horses and deer spawn like NPCs. Minor pets can spawn from other spawners (e.g. gems, special seeds), but at a much lower rate than they otherwise would.

It's also possible to get the minor pets spawners into CAW, but I'm not sure I feel confident messing with the CAW prorgamme... especially when my world is SO CLOSE to being finished.

From what I can gather it's probably not too hard, but I think you have to do it each time you open the game or something. You'd have to extract the resources from the AP world file. Similar to extracting textures I think. But you're right - they spawn from the other spawners, so you don't need to add more. If you're interested we have a thread on the spawners here- but you can find more info on what's in them in the gameplay_data package.

Well, I did a bit of play-testing, and found a cardinal right away, so I think I'll leave the spawners as they are for the moment... I'll see how it goes, I may add some minor pet spawners on lots in certain places, as I do like the Pets content, and I know a lot of other people do.

ANYWAY. Tonight, I present something a little different. Meet Janis Cobain. She's... not exactly a wallflower.

"Welcome to Green Dolphin Island! Check out this splash pad at the local pool!"



She actually found the cardinal, not me...

"Yeppers, that's a red bird, right enough. And hey look, here's one with feathers too!"



She's keen to check out all the island has to offer, and is letting me know plenty of things I need to fix...

"Don't change this MUSIC man - vampire music ROCKS!"



"Ahhhh. Can you fix it so that man brings me my drink, and I don't have to get out of this hot tub?"

Er, no, Janis. I apologise.

"Hmmmph."



"Well, I guess this isn't so bad. I could get pretty used to this. Although it'd be good if there were more people swimming past this window as I drink my cocktail."

Janis, for a test sim on an unpopulated island, you're getting remarkably demanding, very quickly.

"I'm comfortable with that."



She's having fun checking out stuff, but there are quite a few things to fix, so I'll get on that... What's nice is that this place is pretty easy to get around, even without transport. That's something that didn't really come out in CAW, but is a nice surprise.

Man, that was fun! I feel sorry for Janis, having to go back in her box until I've done some fixes.

"Sorry? You will be. Hey, can we get ice cream and eat it on the promenade under the stars?"

Sure you can!
