Haha, thanks! It was actually really fun finally playing in the island! Maybe I'll make a story out of it when it's finished :)

Good. I can hardly wait to play in it myself ;) I could even help with the testing if you need anyone else. I don't do much BUT play sims. LOL

So the town will be unpopulated? If so, I'll get to practice my Create-A-Sim skills to populate it! It'll be more fun than it sounds.  ;D

Definitely unpopulated for testing stage, maybe populated a little bit when finalised - I have a few characters in mind to give the place a little bit of history, but haven't quite made up my mind. But yes, there'll be plenty of space for new Sims and families...

Owing to some of the (mostly silly) stuff I noticed, this probably won't be ready until at least Sunday now, apologies...

OK, things have been tweaked, more spawners added... and I built a cottage which I want to move into. It's slightly twee, but, I kinda like that :) It started off as a cheap-n-cheerful starter, but I got thoroughly carried away, and now it's about three times the price of a starter when it's furnished :D And, because I got carried away with furnishing, I didn't get as much building done as I'd like. Never mind, I'll carry on when I get back from Saturday funtimes...

I'm so uploading this to the Swapshop when I'm done, I'm kind of besotted with it :) I didn't grab any inside shots though, so you'll have to take my word for it :D

I love the vibe from this town. It needs a good Don Lothario. (Or a Gage ::)) I can see this one sim I made once, she is green with orange hair and she has a sassy vibe to her, she has some meat and she is an awesome stylist. This reminds me of Lucky Palms but that is likely just Janis.

Green Dolphin Island - beta version
« Reply #68 on: August 05, 2012, 05:50:03 PM »
OK lovely volunteer beta-testers - it is online! Everyone who has volunteered, I will PM you. Here is the link to the Exchange - for some reason, it's still known as Aston Isle (the original name): http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=6210059

It's 30.6 MB, so shouldn't be too heavy on resources. If you're not beta-testing, please wait to download the final version, I promise it will be worth it...

I'm extremely grateful to people who have offered to test - it would have been nice to just upload the final version, but if I test everything, that wouldn't be for months... so thank you for helping me finish it faster! That also extends to everyone who's commented or read, I really appreciate it, and it's helped spur me on to actually complete this in a reasonable timeframe :)

A few important things:

  • This world has used every expansion pack, and I haven't really kept track of furniture used (there may be a few small store decor items, mostly free, and possibly a couple of stuff packs, but nothing functional, and I kept it to a minimum), so I'm not sure how it will appear if you don't have every expansion pack - some lots will be lost, and some functionality will be lost. Let me know anything game-breaking (or annoying)!
  • All the builds apart from Amphoteric are mine, or EA's (possibly remodelled). Please don't upload any of your own remodels to the Exchange or Swap Shop. I have included danefaith's Amphoteric (swapshop link - http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=4919.0) in the new part of town - I put it in to try and match the style for other residential buildings, and stupidly didn't remove it before exporting. This house may or may not be in the final version, depending on whether I get permission to use it. Please be respectful of this.
  • However, there are many empty residential lots, so if you build something during play, and think it would go well in the final world, let me know, send me a couple of screenshots, and I'l see if it can go in... Obviously, anything you make would be credited to you by name, and I'm happy to give a SwapShop link to your building on the world page
  • Please send me reports/screenshots of anything you see in the world that you think needs to be fixed in the final version - such as, unfurnished houses, missing/inaccessible spawners, rabbithold functionality, whether proprietors show up.... etc. Basically, if it looks/plays wrong, let me know!
  • I have not yet built the Private Venue or Dance Club - apologies if your singer needs access desperately :/ I'd like to know how performances go, whether proprietors show up too
  • I really hope you enjoy it, and I'd love to see how your Sims get on in the world. There's a lot of history to be explored, but it's unpopulated at the moment, so feel free to invent characters and stories. I'm happy to give permission to anyone who wants to use the world in a story, BUT please wait for the final version, and please let me know (so I can read it!)
  • Please PM me anything you find, rather than posting all the fix-its on this page!  ;D

There are a few clues hidden around the island about the origin of the name Green Dolphin Island...

Terry Pratchett fans, please pay a visit to the laundrette and let me know what you think ;) It is looking a little bare on the outside, but I'll pretty it up a bit...

Sims that enjoy drinking and travelling should pay a visit to the fusion lounge.

Sims enjoying the finer things in life will enjoy the exclusive lounge:

Would love to see any screenshots of your Sims enjoying (or otherwise) life on Green Dolphin Island!

I'm having difficulties downloading this world. It says I need to update my game, even know I'm pretty sure I'm fully updated. My game version is 12.0.273.017001. Is this not the most recent version?

I'm honestly not sure - the official Games Patches page is here: http://gb.thesims3.com/game/patches

When I open my launcher, it says there are updates available, and that's happened within the last few weeks. I updated shortly before downloading the CAW tool, and haven't updated since, in case it causes an incompatibility issue with CAW. You can check for updates in the game launcher, even if they don't pop up automatically.

I have checked, and it says there aren't any. I've downloaded all of the patches from the link you gave, so I'm not sure what the issue is.  :-\

Huh. *is baffled*

That is a problem I did not foresee. Unfortunately, I cannot replicate it, as I've already got the world installed, and am holding off on updating my game... Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Great :) I'll have a look for answers tomorrow, and if anyone else knows a fix for this, do tell :D
