Spontaneous sim death!

I searched for this problem online but I was only able to find 1 person who had experienced it as well. Maybe somebody here knows what to do or at least what happened.

The other day I was playing and everything was running normally on my game. I decided to stop playing so I saved and quit normally.
The next day when I opened my game I immediately got a message that said something around the lines of: "Damian's motive mobile had been sold due to sim death"
The vehicle had been sold and my sim was no where to be found. I couldn't play him as his picture no longer appeared on the left hand side but his tombstone wasn't there either.
The weirdest part is that he still appears in the household, his family is not going through grief, his girlfriend didn't get heartbroken and in fact gained a cheater reputation when she went out with another guy.

I tried reloading the game and playing the backup files but my sim still seems to die with everything I do.

How is it possible that your sim dies while you're offline/not playing???
Has anyone had this problem? Is there anything I can do?

I have sims 3, all expansion packs & no stuff packs.

I had this problem. It began after a Trip to China, have you travelled recently? I didn't find a fix other than to go back before the Trip. The whole file was pretty messed up by then though and I had to end my Dynasty a week or so later.

No I haven't travelled...
The closest thing to travelling though was that I moved the household from Sunset Valley to Starlight Shores. Could that have been what ruined my game??

It shouldn't have ruined it by changing towns.  It's a big glitch in your file and I don't think there's a way to fix it if even the backup files do the same thing.
