Unusual or helpful uses of decoration items in CAW
« on: July 06, 2012, 10:48:54 AM »
Hi all!

So, I'm building a world. I'm still in the planning stages at the moment (sketching out road plans, working out how many lots I want and how much space I need etc).

Part of my planning has led me to think about how to create a harbour. Thinking of how to do this, I remembered the river in Champ les Sims (WA), and how, when it goes through the town, has a wall on either side, going down all the way to the water. Is this available in CAW, and if so, has anyone used it successfully, and are there any tips/tutorials that might be handy?

I can add a pic of what I mean, if that will be helpful.

OK, I've worked out a way, using decoration objects; to be precise, adjusting terrain around a retaining wall. No fishing off the pier, unfortunately, but it does look nice :)

I'm changing the title of the thread to encourage people to discuss how they use decoration objects to give a unique look to the place, and ways to use or adjust them to look like something else.

I think there's a water tank in the game anyway, but I didn't find it before. I used a grain silo pushed right down into the ground to look like a water tank. I also rotate and put rocks at diffenent depths into the ground to make new different looking rocks.

Pushing plants down into the ground so only a bit of the leaves show, on a small mound, to make it look like a pile of green-waste just outside/just inside the junkyard.

Before the service station was available in the game, I saw someone make an interesting arrangement of objects using MOO to make a gas pump.

It should be very interesting to see what ideas people come up with!

Oh, I remember the gas pump - I think it was Ausette's Gas Station.

I saw this awesome video about creating a shark tank inside a house - it was on one of the other building threads. It's on youtube, so the veideo wills start playing automatically on clicking the links.
