Unfinished room with pool
« on: October 16, 2009, 07:07:16 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with unfinished rooms and/or indoor pools?

I've build a big house for a bunch of sims but they keep saying one of the rooms is unfinished. Well it's not! >:(

I've checked behind every door and window and under the rugs, there are no gaps. And yes, the room has a roof. I've removed the floor and wallpaper and put it back...nothing helps. :(
The room has a pool, I've added floor and wallpaper to that, again nothing. Now I'm thinking it's the pool itself, maybe it's supposed to be outside? I placed the pool first, then build around it. Well, I'm going to remove the pool and see if that helps, then put it back.
I'll do that when I get home; yes I'm at work, working hard, hehe.

Has anybody else had this happen? I haven't had the unfinished room problem before so I don't really have any experience here.

And there's another thing that's making this annoying: the sims don't get the unfinished room moodlet immediately when entering the room.
Sometimes they spend a little time in the room and then it appears, othertimes they can walk all the way across the room going somewhere else and it never appears at all. Sometimes they react right away.
Is this normal? It's making it really hard to tell if my attempts to fix it has any effect or if they're just slow to react. :P

It sure sounds like you had your checklist right for what could cause it. I wonder if Sims get that moodlet when they're in the pool in the "unfinished room". Too bad, it might just be meant to be outdoors. Let us know if building them in reverse order helps. I didn't think of that. When we get weather someday, they'll need to fix this....

Hmm, I hadn't thought of putting them in the pool, I will tinker with that too when I get home.

Okay. Progress report.

First I got a sim to fish in the pool. I thought this might make him think he was outside, he is insane after all. No go, he still hated the room.
Then I got him to swim in the pool. He changed from swimwear to his everyday clothes to do this. ::)
As soon as he started swimming the unfinished room moodlet went away. Hmm.

Then I deleted the pool, underneath it was grass so I added carpet. The room is no longer unfinished, yay!

I then put the pool back and this works. No complaints. :)

Finally I tried deleting the pool a second time. Now there is no longer grass under it, the carpet is still there underneath the pool apparently.

Now I see what the problem is, it's because the floor underneath the pool isn't covered. Brilliant. Even if you cover the floor of the pool after it's built it's not enough.
So if you want an indoor swimming pool you have to lay a floor first and then build the pool on top.

One more little strange thing.

My sims are now happy with their indoor pool room, except when they go swimming they complain it's dark even though there's plenty of light in the room. ???

They want an underwater light in the pool. Duh.

So if you want an indoor swimming pool you have to lay a floor first and then build the pool on top.

That makes total sense. Think about real life and how an indoor pool would be made — would you fill an area of grass with the water? Of course not. You'd concrete everything in and then fill the pool.

Good point Metro... I guess we should just expect the pool to create the concrete... another little thing they could fix to make things simpler.
