Hair color not being saved in the palette in Create A Sim?
« on: June 28, 2012, 09:10:13 PM »
Ok I am majorly confused. So when I am creating sims in create a sim and I want to save a hair color or save the coloring for an outfit it won't save it. Like, it will for a second but if I click another item or color it disappears. Also, sometimes when I am playing ( only SOMETIMES ) when it's like noon or something my game's lighting will still be dark. Also, when I am downlading sims off the exchange it won't download some of the items..? Is there any way I can fix this without installing and uninstalling the game? Thanks soooooo much to anyone who does or tries to help.   :)

Colors that you have saved should still be in the palette. If you mean that it disappears from the hair/outfit, make sure you're editing elsewhere when you select the new color (or get out of the Create A Style first). If it's not saving in the palette, can you walk through exactly what you're doing? Screen shots would also be helpful.

Indoors? Make sure you have windows/lights in the room(s) in question.
Outdoors? Make sure there's no meteor incoming.

You can also check your game settings, otherwise, possibly a graphics card issue.

Downloading a sim off the exchange isn't the same as downloading a sim and all the items - if a sim is uploaded with content you do not possess, the game will replace it with content you do possess. You'll need to determine if it's CC or store/SP/EP items, and proceed accordingly.

It totally leaves from the palette! I will save it, then when I come back it will be gone! What I do is with hair, I will click the change color button and edit the color. Then, I will click the save to bin button and it doesnt do anything? And I kind of just started playing sims so I have no idea how to put screen shots in sorry.

And it probably was a meteor because right after, it said something about a meteor just coming down and for me to look for it or something along the lines of that.

Thank you so much!

Welcome to our Forum, bschro101.

Would you please change the title of this thread to something more specific?  The title you've got doesn't give any information about what the thread is about and it's important that it be correctly labeled.  To change it, just click "modify" on the first post, make the changes, then save.  Thanks very much.

Screen shots would be to hit "print screen" if you're on a PC (Mac method is escaping my memory at the moment). Then you can follow the instructions here to upload.

When you say, "when I come back it will be gone," what precisely do you mean by "come back"? Switching to a different color, then wanting to go back? Leaving Create-A-Sim and then re-entering to make a new sim? Exiting the game entirely, and coming back a day or so later?

Is this only when you're in Create-A-Sim at the start of a game? When you're using the Salon in game? A mirror or a dresser?

When you click on the "save to bin" option, are you getting the little pop up window? If it's unique, it will say it's saved, but if there's an existing color, it'll tell you so too (I say this only because I know far too many people who are notorious for not reading the messages). Also, obvious option is obvious, but must be mentioned: if the colors are being saved after the defaults instead of amongst them, make sure you're scrolling to the right if it's available.

Thanks! I just signed up so I will try to post pictures for you as soon as possible!

It is pretty much whenever you have the option to save colors to the bin. When I click save to bin I do get the pop-up window and it says save successful, but if I go to another category (Let's say I saved a hair color. I will go pick an outfit for my sim, then go back to select a diferent hair style or color and it will be gone.) And it only has the default colors, no customised ones.

For some reason my print screen button is not working. I am on an hp pavilion dv5 lap top if that helps?

Re print screen - I don't usually need to use this, but I believe it stores it in the memory, and so after print screen, you would need to open a graphics program, and paste it, then save that image. I'm sure one of our other picture gurus could guide you better.

As for the color palette, that does sound very strange.

Are you using any mods? If so, remove them and try again.

What happens when you set up a sim the way you like and save them to the bin? Do they keep their color customization, or do they lose those?

Can other custom colors be saved to the palette (eye, clothes, skin)?

When you hit Print screen, just go into Paint and hit Paste and that should help.  Then you can save it as a .png to upload to the gallery.    If the Print screen is coming out black, then try it in windowed mode if it isn't already.

Also try holding down the Shift or Ctrl buttons when you press PrtScn.  Sometimes just the PrtScn button won't do it.

It might sound kind of stupid but I don't know what a mod is so I don't think I'm using any.. And when I save them to the bin they are exactly as I saved them, customizations and all!! And no custom colors are saved no make-up, eyes, clothes or skin!

It doesn't sound stupid.  Mods are modifications to the game created by people other than Electronic Arts.  Some people use them and some don't.  I'm one of the ones that doesn't use them.

Well, I've been poking around online to see if anyone has had any sort of the same issue. I must confess to being well and truly stumped.

If there are no mods, and customized bin-Sims are working fine...I truly just don't know. Perhaps someone else here has experience with it, but I can confirm I am unable to recreate this issue (hair and eye colors are being saved with no issue on my end).

I have the exact same problem. It will save only sims and lots. Not furniture colors or eye colors, hair colors, clothing colors, floor colors, walls, and etc. But I can still share and upload them. I have even tried reloading them back into my game after I upload them the the sims 3 website, but that doesn't work. I find it interesting though that we have the same family of laptop. Which I have been told often melts away at the video driver. I have no mods or cc. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled at least 3 times and it only causes more game problems.  :(
