For some reason my print screen button is not working. I am on an hp pavilion dv5 lap top if that helps?
I also have an HP laptop. The print screen option on most hp's is surrounded by a white box. For example the key for mine says "home" and then under it it shows "prt sc" with a white box around it. To use the print screen option you will need to hold down the key that reads "fn", which is usually located on the bottom left of your keyboard by the cntrl key. Use that key like you would a shift or control key to access any options inside the white boxes on your keyboard. You will then have to paste the photo into the paint program.
