I was planning on making a late-Victorian / early-Edwardian style house. I built the outdoor shell first, put in all the rooms and did the outside first. Which was a terrible idea, since my rooms ended up too big. My original 'budget' was in the 40-60k range, total, but now I'm done furnishing and CASing the first floor (out of two) and it's at 70k already!

The staying-on-budget weakness is strong in this one.

I'm not really good at building, but I do enjoy doing it. My favorite part is outdoors decor. I always end up using money cheats though (bad me, bad,bad me). I like giving rooms a open and airy feel  (that uses lot of windows) to them. I love giving homes a fairytail, whimsicle feel to them! ...And then procced to have a goth-y child to help even out the pink some. Man, this makes me sound like a better builder than I am.

I do basements like nothing else. Donato's house is pre-built (the old Wolff house by the little secluded beach in SV) but underground it is NUTS! I have:
 LEVEL 1:
- A nectary 7 nectar makers strong, with two nectar racks for samples
- A forgotten corridor
 LEVEL 2:
- A forgotten nectary tomb 2 beat-up nectar makers strong
- Another section of the forgotten corridor
- A dark nectar cellar 196 nectar racks strong
- The top level of a three-floors deep collector's display room
 LEVEL 3:
- The master's laboratory (inventing and sculpting benches there, plus his desk and a bookshelf with every skill book in it)
- Invention room with all the original inventions of each kind on display
- Glory room (psychedelic lighting, displays first time machine and miner)
- Lab kitchen, complete with food replicator
- Middle level of collector's display room
- Store room for excess collectibles and creations
- Sculpture display room
- Forgotten nectar cellar, 78 nectar racks strong, houses my most valuable and delicious nectar, and all collected nectar from other countries. It is full to the brim, and unlit.
 LEVEL 4:
- Bottom level of collector's display room
- guest toilets, male and female
- Tiberium sanctuary
- Uncompleted tomb with traps, mummies and the like

NOW tell me I'm not obsessed, and keep a straight face! Hahaha, I love basements...

I've gone equally crazy with decks. I took the Unabridged lot. The one on the beach with the house that bridges across the pool, an built that up to 4 stories (and put in a bacement) and just kept adding on deck space until I had this massive 4 story split level deck. The 4 stories of decks on the side of the pool closest to the house were a few steps higher than the decking on the opposite side of the pool because the decks closest to the house were effected by foundation height so no matter what floor you were on if you walked out on the deck and walked around the pool you'd have that three step drop going to the other side.

On the top floor deck on the beach side (the lower side) was like a stage, piano, drums, base and guitar set up with the party effects machines set up with lasers and fog and over on the higher house side was a coupled duke unprofessional bars and a couple grills and tables where guests could watch the live band.

And of course, on the roof, the huge honkin search light (the movie theater and the stadium use) so every one in town would know where the massive party is.

Imagine how disappointed I was when I realized we could only invite a handful of sims to a party. There's a limit. /facepalm

Yeah... Serious bummer considering that obviously heart driven build. I know the kind of time and love going into such projects, not to mention the occasional real-life neglect of things at times (a small sacrifice)

I had a lot of fun with Mosquito cove once too. Judging by the name and run down appearance one might get the impression that that place is a dump and no one would want to live there but for a nature loving angler that place can be a paradise.

Mosquito Cove was my FIRST ever rebuild.  It was more fun than any I've done since.  It went from a dump to basically a mansion including a pretty awesome, though not as fabulous as Donatello's, basement.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Glad to see Mosquito Cove mentioned - I have also remodeled that one. It turned out to be a gorgeous little house for my insane criminal Sim who loves to fish and garden.

If I'm not mistaken, Mosquito cove is haunted by two ghosts. That and the bugs annoyed me, so I moved. I was a fresh-out-the-box Simmer back then, knew nothing of remodeling and especially demolition and rebuilding, nevermind basements. Sad, really... *Dr. Evil pinky to mouth* It has so much potential.

I'm feeling the itch, big time. It is almost 2 on Sunday morning and I am building an evil lair for my first Dr. Evil-like Sim... I'm hopeless I tell ya...

Interesting. I never encountered any ghosts or bugs for that matter.

Of course I might have the wrong lot in mind. It's in Twinbrook. Haven't played twinbrook for over a year now.
