Ghost Hunting guide corrections
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:03:44 AM »
Traits: You list Logic as a good trait; Logic is a skill, not a trait.  You want Genius as a trait. Other good traits might be Schmoozer and /or Charismatic, for talking with the spirits in higher job levels.

Tips on jobs: You'll want to do the spirit and poltergeist jobs first, and save any investigations for last during your shift.  One night I did the investigation first, and it took so much time that my shift ended before I got to the third job for the night.  If you are on an investigation when your shift ends, you will continue beyond your shift until it completes (I finished around 6AM).

Collectible spirits: There is also a wrathful spirit (orange). I have one on my coffee table named after my ex-wife  ;D listed as Old and value $300.

Thanks! How did I not get a wrathful spirit! The upper types are really rare, and I've only found a few evil.

Messed with CAS for a while, and it seems if you want the Paranormal Profiteer LTW to show up, you need an Eccentric trait.  Tried it with just brave, and it never came up. Same thing with Genius.  You don't need Brave, but it seems Cowardly will remove any chance of it.

Thanks, you were right on the traits. Eccentric is the only one that does it, and seems to be tied only to that particular LTW.

I've just read the ghost hunter guide after having taken a pre-existing sim to level 10 of that profession, and I have a couple of observations.  First, he didn't have the Brave trait and was never afraid of the ghosts he was hunting (although he did get his feelings hurt by one of them who made fun of him!).  Perhaps that trait would speed up his rate of advancement, but he did just fine without it, reaching level 10 in just over 2 weeks.  Second, some of the posts on the forum have suggested it is best to start with a low level of required skills so your sim can gain experience as they gain skills.  This sim had level 10 logic before starting his ghost hunting adventures, and I don't think that delayed him.  I did notice that what was supposed to be a 10-hour shift, from 5 pm to 3 am, was usually more like 4 or 5 hours for him.  I wondered if that was because his high logic skill allowed him to work faster.  Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

My ghost hunter usually got two or three jobs per shift, but they never took up all night.  I think that they have until 3 AM because - between you and me - some people aren't as awesome of players as we are and thus need more time to complete the jobs.

What an astute observation, Jonna!  That must be it.   ;)

When my Ghost Hunter died, I resurrected her as a ghost herself (not any benefit or change, I could observe, she did not even show up on scan for ghost).

Anyway, she had her Logic quite a bit up already and so got to start at a higher career step (3 I think).

I think the reason you started at a higher career level is because of your previous job experience, not the skill level.  For instance, a level 10 doctor that quits his job, then goes back to the medical career won't restart at level 1.

It says in the guide that you can only sell one ghost at a time to the science center but I have been able to click them all and sell them at once.

I believe that has just been corrected Tallulah.
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

Yes, that was in the Paranormal Profiteer LTW guide just published.  I made the correction about the science center.

Concerning Ghostly Presense (and Angry Ghost Invasions), talking the ghosts into leaving seems to boost Charisma quickly.  While the ghosts don't count towards the friends needed for leveling up once they move on, they do count right before they leave, so I've had a couple of times where I needed another friend to gain a level in Charisma, talk a ghost into friendship (which is really easy since the special interations boost the relationship so much) and gain the level right before telling them to move on.  Also, the "ghost friends" do still count towards the Charisma challenges, and getting 20 ghostly friends and 10 ghostly best friends doesn't take long at all in the course of leveling up the profession.  Once you've gained a few levels and have the Celebrity challenge completed, it only takes two interations to boost the ghost to friend level so you can tell them to move on.

That's interesting info, Alsier. 2 interactions is better than 3. It's still not as quick as going Rambo on the spirits, but it's a nice change of pace.
