Correction to the Sculpting Guide that doesn't exist yet
« on: June 04, 2010, 02:32:09 AM »
Sculpting is not only profitable for making money or excellent room makeovers, the stuff that comes out of it, like a hand basin, can be used like one after it's finished. My sim made a hand basin and she could use it for washing her hands and brushing her teeth. I think this is something to mention in the guide, because it makes the sculpting skill even more important.

I'm not sure when Carl will get to Sculpting for the Guide. He's got Inventing and Ghost Hunting done already and he's trying to get them out as fast as possible. If he misses what you said, we'll catch it soon after with editing.

Great. I'm curious. If you need to know something, one of my sims has mastered the skill (including all the challenges). There is a sort of order in how to do those to make it easy on yourself. Start with Ice, then you can work your way up with two challenges at a time (making 25 ice thingies and 20 sculptings). After that, just make 5 of every other type to complete the master challenge and in the same time you work your way up to the create 35 sculptures challenge.

That's not how I'm going to tackle it for my da Vinci walkthrough. I think it's a better use of time to focus on knocking out 20 sculptures fast. That means doing mostly clay since they're the fastest as well as filling in the holes with 5 additional of the other variety to get the master Challenge. The Ice one would be the very last thing I would do. But, that's me. Painting I follow the same logic — all small canvases to get Proficient painter asap.

Yes, I know. You've mentioned the painting thing somewhere and after I've tested it, it works indeed better. Haven't expected that before. Maybe it will be the same again, but even then, someone must test it first.

This is a bit off of your topic, but if you're curious as to what your Sim is sculpting, you can use the testingcheatsenabled code to shift click the big block and then choose object-delete to see what they are sculpting. This can save hours of time if you are trying to get something.  There is also a way to clone masterpiece sculptures etc.  Enter buy mode, press and hold the ctrl and shift keys. Then the hand should change to a mouse pointer. Click on the object you want to clone and it should give you the option. handy for making a bunch of masterpiece chairs to set around the dining table.

EDIT: Make sure that your Sim does not stop making the exposed sculpture, otherwise you won't be able to finish it.

Why can't  he finish it?  Just wondering.  Mine stop all of the time and restart, unless you are referring to something else.

Yes, mine were doing that, but now if they stop sculpting midway, the only option available is to scrap the sculpture.  I don't know why things changed.

I guess it should not surprise us.  I have not played mine for a while, so that is why I ask.  Will try and see.  Guess better have all needs and everything in the green before they start, huh

Hmmmm....interesting. I have multiple sculptors in the Wishmasters challenge (hint, hint — big wishes!) and often cancel their cues to put them to bed. I've never not been able to pick up and continue the next day. Weird.

Same with the inventors table.  If they are working on something big, I can pick up where they left off, but I have always been able to do that with sculptors too.  You mean you have to start over on a statue after they stop?

Well, the answer to that is yes and no. Yes I have to if I use the cheat to "preview" what he is sculpting (if I leave him alone and let him finish it, then there are no problems). No, I don't if I don't use it.

I'm not exactly sure why he won't finish it.  I think it has something to do with it already being "created" without actually going through the process. I use it to get new items like the chess set, toilet, etc.  I just have him start a sculpture and delete the big block, leaving what he will finish there. If it's not what I want, I just scrap it and start a new one.

Once I was working with metal and my Sim caught himself on fire so he stopped sculpting (I had already exposed it and he was making a new chair) and I had him jump in the shower, but when I clicked on the option to finish sculpture he just stood there like he couldn't reach it or something.

I think it has something to do with stopping after exposing the sculpture? I mean, sure I can get him to start and stop so long as I don't use the cheat.
