Can't install patches
« on: June 24, 2012, 05:22:57 PM »
I've been having the message "Error: Unable to connect to Origin" every time I open the launcher, but I've just ignored it because I didn't need it. Now that I want to update to patch 1.34, I can't. I've tried the manual updates, but they don't work. No matter what mirror I download from it tells me I'm in the wrong region. I live in Argentina and I bought the game in the United States; I don't know if this has any impact. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my base game and Origin, but nothing seems to work. Origin is updated to the newest version, too. My operating system is Windows XP, and it's a kind of slow computer and a slow internet connection. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it a lot!

Well, I can tell you one thing right away:
No matter what mirror I download from it tells me I'm in the wrong region. I live in Argentina and I bought the game in the United States; I don't know if this has any impact.
I’m positively sure it does have an impact. If you installed the game using CDs from the U.S. but have a connection to the internet elsewhere, it will tell you that you are in the wrong region because each CD has a “Regional Code” (not sure what it’s called but good enough) that tells where the game was purchased (or something to that affect). The only way around this I can see without buying new disks is to 1) Register your games at The Sims 3’s website if you haven’t already, 2) Uninstall the game (keep/backup your saves if you want), and 3) Open the Origin Download Manager and re-download your games from there. It’s a rather quick runthrough, but it covers the important things. Have any trouble with it and I can come back and help. (My days on the forums are rather slow.)

“You ought to upgrade to Windows 7!”, they said. “It’ll help your games run so much better!”, they said. If I see them again, then they had better know how to stabilize an on-the-fritz copy of The Sims 3 that was working just fine on Windows XP.
