Hehe, there is no option for that. Or I haven't saw one yet.

Nice numbers man! But you should have started with the ice. After making 25 sculptures from ice you are already halfway in completing all the challenges.

But are ice sculptures more valuable?  If not, then what's the point in making 25 of them anyway?  I mean besides the aesthetic value.

Because you can work your way up in finishing two challenges at once. When you've made 20 ice sculptures, you have already one challenge completed. Than you just have to make 5 more to complete another challenge. I don't know if they are more valuable.

Sorry I'm really just going to have to disagree with you on this!  I don't see the point in making more than five ice sculptures to complete the five-of-everything challenge, if ice isn't worth as much as say, stone.  If I wanted to make a home with only ice furniture, then sure I'd worry about cranking out 25 ice sculptures.  (Side note: HOW COOL would it be to have a home with only ice furniture!!!)  I'm not worried about finishing all the challenges, that's simply not the way I play my game.

If you make 25 ice sculptures your sculptures will never melt again. If you want to have a home with only ice furniture you should definatly complete this challenge.

How is it that you start with ice?  When I decided to try sculpting, the only option to start with was clay, then my Sim had to work its way up through different mediums until ice was available.

You get ice at skill level 5.

You start out with clay. Once you move up a few skill levels new material will be available for you to use:
Level 3: wood
Level 5:ice
Level 8:stone
Level 10:Topiary

Lucky for you, you have me!  I had my Sculptor churn out some "topes" for you.  He does have all the sculpting challenges complete (except for the ice one) and has the Artisan Crafter.

Dragon Dougherty: Masterpiece x1 = $2,647.  Brilliant x2 = $1,456 and $1,472.  Good were between $756 and $955.  I also had one nice but its head had been chopped off, worth $931.

The topiaries I had left on my lot were: Penguinopoly, Brilliant worth $1,323; Anna the Panda, Brilliants worth $1,132 and $1,334; and Felix the Giraffe without a head, Brilliant worth $1,315.

I am not sure if the lack of head raises the value or lowers it.  If nice is less valuable than good, then according to the above about the Dragon, lopping off your creations' heads is a great idea.  This is a random occurrence, in case you haven't seen it.  You just receive a notice that things didn't go according to plan.  You have to View the item in order to see its grade and value.

Sorry I just realized something.  I've been playing at night when I'm tired (excuses!) -- I'm not sure if I had Artisan Crafter for all of those.  Definitely had it for the Dragons because I cranked those out special, and the giraffe, but the penguin and pandas, I can't say for sure.  :-\

My bad. I mean once you've unlocked the ice, than use ice only, until you reach 25.

But, that's an enormous time commitment and may be what Jonna was hinting at. I mentioned somewhere else that I think the thing to do is get the speed challenge as soon as possible. It's no different than gunning for Proficient Painter with small canvas size. I suppose if you've got this crazy desire to have ice all around your house, then yeah, stick with Ice sculptures. But, from my little experience with Sculpting at this point, Ice takes much longer than Clay. Haven't crunch the numbers to see if the extra time is worth it even.

After rethinking this I think you're right. I haven't notice that the ice is so time consuming because I am mostly watching other sims at that moment and my sculpter will give me a call when she finishes one.
But it is still handy to complete the challenge of ice because Ice sculptures will never melt again, which is nice when you sculpt out your sim family. :)

Did I read somewhere that if you watch the sims moodlet when they start sculpting, it will determine the outcome of the sculpture, I did some experimenting and got all sorts of different outcomes.  I think again it is random.  Nicely decorated was a masterpiece, good and great.  Decorated was good and brilliant.  I guess this is like everything else, ya never know what you are going to get with a certain profession.  It has really been pretty neat so far.

Edit:  I posted this somewhere else, but I did make sim ice sculptors at level 4, the book says lvl 6 and I got a masterpiece at level 5 and the guide says level 9.  He was already maxed on sculpting skill, so not sure if that makes a difference.

You probably have some nice traits that correspond with the sculpting skill. Like the perfectionist and artistic one. I'm not sure if those will improve the sculpting skill too (I mean the outcome of it) but I made sure my sim had it before sculpting, because it really would make a lot of sense when it does improve.
Wow, that means there are at least 3 traits that will improve sculpting. Nice.

For people who hate how long it takes for the bar to start moving while Sculpting, try this handy little trick.  Start a sculpture, immediately click on the balloon in the top left that says "Sculpt...".  Then go back to your sculpture and hit "Continue".  Unsure if a bug or feature, but when you do this, the top portion of the sculpture will IMMEDIATELY (within 2-3 sim minutes), come off, and your bar progression will start.  Knocked off a good 2-3 sim hours on stone sculptures for me.
