My sim invented the miner so just to try it out I set out digging in front of my house and all the neighbours came running (it was the middle of the night) and when he got off the miner it exploded and set my house and my neighbours on fire, I didn't have a smoke alarm so one of them died :( It left a huge crater and the massive space rock worth about 3.6k in its place, along with a few other smaller rocks. The fire did about 5k's damage though!

Wow how unfortunate, but I would find it hilarious if this happened to one of my sims! Did the smaller rocks in combination with the big one cover the damages?

Most of the damage was from the fire, if I'd had a smoke alarm I think there would have been much less damage. The value of the space rocks and the scrap made it pretty even though I think so it wasn't a major loss.

What a story Nancy! Wow. The 'monsters' will be unlocked when you are at level 10 in the inventing skill. It is just like the omniplant challenge, but than faster. You have to wait until the science lab calls you to collect them some stuff. After that you get a thingy to create a new invention: aka monster. ;)

Ah, cool. I've been ignoring all the opportunities because they drive me nuts. They were fun and interesting at first, but now I just get really irritated with them interrupting all the time. It's mostly since WA that I've been avoiding them. The ones in the home neighbourhood aren't bad, but every other day I'm getting calls to take a book/painting to France/Egypt/China or to bring back some food, particularly when you're trying to get a specific important one for a skill you're genuinely interested in, but you can't get it because all you get is food challenges because you happened to make pancakes once or twice. I had that problem with my writer in one of the challenges, she got hardly any writing challenges - it was all falafel! And the ones she did get were take a book to France/Egypt/China. Kinda makes we want to uninstall World Adventures.

@ NancyJ: it works just like the Mr3000 guide to become a millionair guitarist: specialize your sim in only one or a few skills. In your case: a writer.

Exceptions on this rule are some skills that are compatible together like fishing, gardening, cooking. Or painting, sculpting, inventing. The longest I can think off is a 5 skill combo: gardening, fishing, handyness, inventing and nectar making.
Those goes hand in hand. But for the others mostly counts: focus on one, just one.

Okey, this comes a little late for you now, but now you know it for the next time. :)

Writing was the only skill she had, except for cooking. Living on pizza and juice doesn't make for a very happy sim. She only cooked once a week but got far more cooking opportunities than writing.

My Sims were just caught in a Meteor Shower while at work at the Hospital.  These are my 'ER" Sims. :)

They both had the same boss, Morgana Wolff, and she was killed by the Meteor.

I am pretty new to the Sims series, and that was the first time I had seen the Grim Reaper.

NancyJ: So with you on the cooking challenges!  Hate those things.  I pretty much just ignore those and any challenge that requires travel.

Killed! Wow, I didn't know that was possible. The last time I've saw that was in The Sims 2. So three turns out to be a bit more dangerous.
