Earthquakes
« on: June 03, 2010, 08:58:07 AM »
I was just reading a post on my other topic about inventing digging tunnels when I realized that there are actual nature disasters ingame! Like meteorites and even earthquakes.
Has anyone already 'found' some of those yet?

Because you can now dig underground and make a whole mine this way through inventing. I was afraid that this might result in earthquakes.

I don't know how realistic they made the game in this regard, but it would be more than logical that when you dig underneath a building there is a high chance for that building to collapse (in real life).

After a tunnel was dug in Amsterdam (I thought it was Amsterdam) a few years ago some buildings began to burst or started to tilt.

It may be that the earthquake announces for the game will be formed by digging underground. If anyone knows, please confirm this.

I have read about that too.  Supposedly, the screen will start to shake and then you hear some eerie music before the earthquake.  It does make sense though, that if you dig around or under buildings, that it would make the foundation weak.  Should be interesting to find out more.

My Sim encountered earthquakes during his time as a firefighter.  The screen shook and I had to come in to work to help.  He went to 3 different houses and rescued Sims from rubble piles, put out fires, and fixed gas leaks from ovens.

I haven't experiences them yet but in the firefighter profession when you level up if you read the little description one of them mentions earthquakes. I don't remember which level though! So maybe for that to be a part of the game you have to be a firefighter past a certain level but I don't know for sure just a guess!

What level was your fire fighter when the earthquakes started to happen? I believe that the higher you are in the career, the bigger the disaster will be.

I've gone through Firefighter twice, and I had one earthquake both times.  I think the earthquakes happened during at least level 8, but I can't be sure if it's dependent or a matter of chance.

My Sim Bot who is a Firefighter and has been at level 10 for awhile.  Most of his disaster's were at a business and some giant plant was running rampant.  Since they were rabbit holes, not much to watch. :P
Finally last night he had his first earthquake, which was funny to watch the screen shake.  I don't remember any music playing, but you hear a bunch of rumbling, LOL. :D  It was funny because the Sim Bot and my Sim who were studying never reacted to the earthquake. :P

My Sim Bots experience was pretty much like TommyT's.  My only complaint is that he also had to work 3 fires.  Two fires he had to save 2 Sims in each house and the last house he had to save 4.  His LTW is to save 30 Sims from death (sorry I forgot what it was called).  When I checked the LTW count it said he only saved 5 lives. >:(  At this rate it's going to take forever if they keep cheating him out of lives saved. :-\

It took me 40 days to accomplish the LTW.  Not sure if you and I are having freak experiences but currently I feel that this LTW is unbalanced compared to the others.

Wow, that is long, Tommy. Are the Happiness Points earned higher than other LTW?

The five new LTW tied to careers are all worth 30,000 points.

It didn't take very long for my firefighter to save his 35 people.  I think it just depends on how "lucky" you are to have emergencies to which you have to respond.  My sim had emergencies nearly every day and had, I believe, three earthquakes in about two weeks' span.  Sorry I didn't check how much time had passed before he achieved his wish, I think it might have been three or four weeks.  He did get to level 10 easily within two weeks.  I'm loving that golden hydrant!

Perhaps, you could...um...erm..."set-up" some lives to be saved? Do they have to be on the career, or can you possibly just set someone on fire yourself and then put them out? And hurray! You saved them? Because on the ghost hunter wish, I could get ghosts off the clock that counted.

My sim invented the miner so just to try it out I set out digging in front of my house and all the neighbours came running (it was the middle of the night) and when he got off the miner it exploded and set my house and my neighbours on fire, I didn't have a smoke alarm so one of them died :( It left a huge crater and the massive space rock worth about 3.6k in its place, along with a few other smaller rocks. The fire did about 5k's damage though!
