Stylist Profession

Thank you! That was the missing piece of information I ended up figuring out. I think that Carl's Guide would be improved by being  expanded to include more detail.

I've read through much of this thread, but not all. I'm having trouble taking the photos. I can't seem to get the viewfinder window to get larger, or to zoom out, despite using x and z. What am I missing?

It helps to buy a camera.  Without one, you're very limited on the pictures you can take of your clients.

I just started a sim in this career a few days ago and there's something I don't really get about the portfolio. What's the point of adding the sketches they draw to it, it doesn't count for te portfolio's % or maybe I'm missing something? He's level 7 right now and just got 2 or 3 unhappy customers but the pop-up said he did a good job son it's just a bit random if the customers are happy or not and he only did a bad makeover once in his first day at work. So what I'm really missing is the portfolio thing.

The sketches do not really add anything, but I do hang them on the wall when I get my stylist a station of their own, just adds ambience to the room.  Like Pam said, if you get a camera and use that when you start getting the option to take photo's, it does help, but even if you just take a picture of their head or even a small portion of their body, it still counts as a photo being added.  Here I was trying like crazy to get the whole sim in the picture, so when I realized all you need is a small portion, then I quit trying so hard until I finally got a camera.  If I did a makeover of just shoes, I would only take a picture of shoes, same with outfits or accessories and then I would name my photo.  It is a fairly easy profession, but my sim is on level 10 and still only has 58% of portfolio done and only getting two photo's per week, so it is very slow going.

Thanks for answering. I'm doing nothing wrong then. Yeah, I use the sketches as decor, some of them I really nice, as I think I have seen most of the paintings so far I'm making my sims draw sketches both from stylist and architect to put them on the walls, I really like them    It seems impossible to complete the portfolio, so far all I have read is people near 60%, as you are, but that's all. And yes, I use a camera, but as I soon as I realized that it really doesn't matter what's in the picture, I just try them to look "nice", not really bothered about what's in it.

Now every job I get at a clients home, I go there and no one is at home so I can't style them.
I have tried calling them, inviting them to mine and waiting around ALL day.
How on earth am I meant to style them if they are not at home?

It's been a while since I've played the Stylist career, but I remember that you are required to work at the salon during the early levels.  It may be that you're trying to do a job out in town when you're supposed to stay at the salon.  The clients come to you in the beginning, but yes, they do sometimes cancel.  If that happens at the Salon, you just have to do something else.  Once you're able to do jobs out and about, you can use the Map View to click on a job and your Sim will go straight to it.

Do sims have to stay at the salon in order for jobs to come up?
How do the jobs appear? The one she got was a star in the building beside the salon. Are they always there or do they come up all over town?

In the beginning levels of the Stylist profession, your Sim has to spend the entire day at the Salon.  Customers walk in and you need to go to them to talk and offer makeovers.  Once you reach a certain level (I think it's level 3), you'll be able to work out and about in the town.  Jobs will be offered to you and you will travel to the customer.  But for now, everything is at the Salon.

Let's see. I think I will be the first male person who actully respond to this post, because, let's face it: styling is more something for the convinced fashionly amazing members under us (who I all see coming together here actually).
I have a question for you: I've read somewhere that you will win a fashionly mirror after reaching level 10 of this career. Does this mirror gives a sim any extra moodlet or something special, like the 5star fridge after reaching culinary level 10?

I personally don't think stylist is for girls. I mean, why should we males be denied the epic permanent moodlet?
As for the styling mirror I don't think you get one of those .

Agreed, I think stylist should bea male thing too. I personally like the stylin moodlet myself. But you can get a styling mirror in the "Hobbies & Skills" section.

I know where to find the styling mirror, I was just saying I don't think you get one at level 10 in the styling career.
