Thanks Saltypaws!  I will test it again doing it the way you describe. *wanders off feeling a little foolish*  ::)

Pam did you try looking in the Prima Guide to see if it tells about the stars? I don't have one or I would.

Yes, I read through the section on Stylists and it said nothing about the stars.  I guess I'll just have to figure it out as I play through the profession.

I'm having a problem with the stylist profession as well, Even if I give the client exactly what they ask for (example they want a new accessory, I give them new ear rings) it will say that I did not give them the requested make-over. Am I missing something? Or even if you give the client what they ask for can they still dislike it?

Welcome to the Forum, accooper1020!

I believe that you get more negative reviews for makeovers when you're in the early levels of the Stylist profession.  Your Sim just doesn't have the experience and skill to always do a good job, even if it seems ok to the player.  The message I get a lot says something about keep working at getting experience to have happier customers.  I'm only on level 4, so I don't yet know how it all works when my Sim gets to the higher levels.

The higher you get, the more positive reviews you get and you don't hardly ever go to the shop. I have one on lvl 9 and making almost 2,000.00 a week.  I have made her a studio at home and she loves working, at first I wasn't sure I would like this profession, but it has turned out really pretty neat.

Ok Thank you, I also read somewhere that if you use custom content during the makeovers and will come as incompleted. I know I was using CC content so I will not use any during the makeovers and see if that makes any difference. Thanks for the help!

That mystery §9800 your sim received - I've seen something like this happen since the base game.  It's a bug that happens occasionally for no apparent reason.  The amount your household gets from this bug varies, but it always seems to be the purchase price of a car - the Yomoshoto Evasion in your case.  I have seen this bug give §105000, which is the price of the most expensive car, the Margaret Vaguester.

I don't particularly like this "free money" bug as I want my sims to have to earn their simoleons, but at least it's not a game-breaking bug, and fortunately it's quite rare and doesn't happen often.

Thanks for the explanation, Maritah.  I hadn't heard of that bug until you mentioned it.  Very strange.

Update on the kind of money my stylist is making.  She is lvl 10, she makes $2,760.00 a week and makes between $1,300 to $1,800 a makeover session.  I included a sketch and picture of her ceremony they gave her at city hall and presented her with key to city, plus she got a big trophy and is called a fashion icon, turned out pretty cool.

Nice pics Saltypaws! I think I'll try this one next  time I play. I was thinking of making 2 sisters who are both stylists and have a home business.

My portfolio seems to be stuck at 47%, I've nearly maxed the career but I don't get the 'take a photo for your portfolio' option at the end of the sessions any more (never got it all the time but usually 1 out of the 3 jobs per day would). Just taking a photo of the sim at the end doesn't count and adding sketches to the portfolio doesn't increase it either.

I really enjoyed this career at first (finally I can do something about all the tragic fashion victims! We just need personal trainers next) but it's starting to get a little tedious, styling the same sims day after day after you already made them look good before.

Ohmigosh, tell me about it! If I have to make over Amy Bull one more time, I'm gonna shave her bald and dress her in a burlap sack. :P Your clothes are all ones I already picked out for you, why do you need more? It's been like two days. Gah.

That said, this was a fun little career to try out. Shark Racket turned out to be quite the cutie, post-makeover, though I have definitely seen the proliferation of spotty elders previously mentioned regarding Twinbrook. I'm up to level 5 or 6 now, and it's been quite a while since I had a dissatisfied customer. I wish I had taken the Artistic trait; I figured it would help, but I didn't realize how much it would help. I like that simply working on your portfolio levels up your career ranking somewhat; I wish there was a system like that for Inventors.

The moneymaking is slow going, but it made for a fun afternoon. I think I need a break for a little while, with a different career path. Too many makeovers! :-[

I wish I could assist with the percentage issue, but my portfolio only recently reached 20%. I will let you know if I think of something.

I'm kinda worried that the age spots is a new thing for elders and we're all going to look like that! My sim is artistic so maybe that explains why she hasn't had many unhappy customers - I think she had maybe 3 or 4 all the way to the top of the profession and 2 of those it said I did a good job but the customer is picky. But I've had to start again anyway because it just hung when trying to save.

I have a theory about the stars too, I noticed that they're in different arrangements (so not all 3 stars are the same) I'm thinking maybe they represent the 5 different outfits and you get a star for each one that they liked? I haven't had a chance to test it yet because my computer hard locked (it doesn't like this summer weather we're having!)

That is smart thinking. I wonder if that is it but I don't have a stylist at the moment to try that theory. You will have to let us know when you find out it that is it!

Not so sure about that now - I think what I saw before was maybe a graphics glitch (it showed 2 stars then a gap and another star) because I haven't seen it again since so it might just be a rating. I think I've sussed out the portfolio thing though, mine's at 50% now and not progressing very fast at all but I think you only get to take the photo for each new job. When you start out most of the jobs are new but as you progress you're just getting the same ones over and over which is why it really slows down - its going to take a really long time to get to 100%, I'm seeing maybe 1 new job per week.
