I have just made a Stylist and she got a promo over the weekend from the Research Fashion option, but can someone explain how you fill and use the portfolio?

When you go to the salon for the first time (during work hours) you'll get a client with a specific request, if the client likes your work it'll bring up the photo mode (getting a camera helps you get a better shot but that doesn't seem to affect the % portfolio). As far as I can tell you only get the photo options on unique jobs. Some jobs have the same title but different descriptions and I think those count separately but if you do a job with the same description as one you've done before you wont get the option to photograph it for your portfolio. Mine's up to 52% now and its really slow going and very tedious.  I'm doing 15 jobs a week and getting on average 1 new one per week.
When you get to level 3 you'll get jobs outside the salon and they appear on the map as well as getting notifications about them and there being a button on the careers tab for bringing them up.

I can't figure out how to give the sim multiple outfits in one time.  Such as when the sim wants 3 formal outfits and 2 new swimwear.  This info in not in the 'help' feature and not in the in-case pamphlet.  I can't buy the guide for it because it is on back order and I normally never need them. But in several days, I still have not figured it out.  I'm probably missing something simple and will feel silly for having to ask once I find out what the answer it.

^ When you are in the styling room and you have the outfit selector up there is a little plus sign on the side by the trash can. If you click on that you can add up to two additional outfits for whatever category you are on (everyday, sleepwear ect.), so you can end up with three in total.
I hope that helps it's difficult to describe things in words haha.

Anyways I just started the stylist career but it's going alright so far, I'm already on level four and I just received my first trophy :). I've only had two bad reviews so I guess I can't be doing that bad lol. It's the only career I've tried so far but I'm having fun making the town look a little better then it does.

Welcome to the Forum Moondark and kaykay!

Moondark, if you have trouble finding the plus sign button from kaykay's description, let me know and I'll post a screenshot of it.

I did find out, that when your stylist reaches level 10, any makeovers you do after that do not register, so I am not sure what the point is after that.  The bar that was the experience bar now is yellow after lvl 10, nothing else happens, I have not gotten any more opportunities, so I just switched her profession to painter, she is already maxed out painting, so why not.  I am not real happy with the stylist profession.  I wonder if all of them do that, where nothing counts when you max out the profession.

My stylist is level 10 and she still gets 2-3 jobs per work day and they count for experience (although I didn't notice my stipend go up at all when I filled in the bar, it just played a sound and then went back to being empty again). I'm also still occasionally getting portfolio work.

All I know, she still gets the jobs, she does the makeover and when she is done, there is nothing checked in the box and of course she does not give the customer what they wanted. I tried this out numerous times and I tried to solicit jobs, same thing.  Must be some bug or something, I know I am doing it right, because I have been doing it, it started after she reached lvl 10, oh well, she ought to do awesome in painting then, lol.

I'm finding this profession rather irksome. I made a CAS sim specifically for this career and set her down in Sunset Valley. If any sims need a makeover, they do.

Anyway, her first makeover was Molly French, who admittedly isn't atrocious looking, but there is room for improvement. I gave her a nice French twist hairdo and put her in a power suit with high heels and she looked fantastic. She got mad at my sim and left! She gave Jared Frio some new accessories and he didn't like that either. So now she is stuck at level 2. There seems to be nothing these SV sims like!

My girlfriend also found it VERY difficult to please any clients.  Some liked it, but in general, this is a VERY "touchy" career.  Might just be a lot of snobs and evil, mean-spirited people in her neighborhood, but still, who doesn't love a make-over!?

I'm not digging on this new profession at all. Maybe I just need to be more patient and let her progress a few more levels.

The early levels are definitely more difficult in regards to having satisfied customers.  That part of it gets much easier as you progress upward to level 10.

She did finally get level 10, and still at least 1/3 hated their make overs.  At least with Architecture you can figure out what pleases them to some extent. =P

I am not too sure about the stylist either.  As I posted earlier, after level 10, none of her makeovers even registered, it was if I had not even done them.  I suppose there are going to be some bugs and glitches, but for the most part they can be worked around.
