I remember Ruth now (from the Bible). Did you know Hannah (my name) is in there too? I think I had a little book about her when I was little. :)

I used to name my Sims after members of my family. e.g. Mum, Dad, cousin, etc. Another naming theme I've used is to have each heir's name to start with Z.

My current (for fun) legacy has several themes. Female children are named after flowers, so I started with Lily. Later generations got Lavender, Rose, Daisy, Marigold, Nasturtium, Hibiscus, Gardenia, Wisteria and Tulip. Male children are named after weather, which started with Lily having children with Cycl0ne. I've had Hale, Storm and Rayne so far. Animals get named after planets and stars so I've had horses called Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Pluto and Saturn. Imaginary Friends have three letter names with an X in them: Max, Rex, Lex, Tex. So far they're all boys because I haven't had a lot of male children who need female IFs for future spouses, mainly because I'm playing a Matriarchy and am paranoid about having spares.  :P
Listen to the mustn'ts child, Listen to the don'ts;
Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles and the won'ts.
Listen to the never-haves, then listen close to me;
Anything can happen, child; anything can be.

Isn't Ruth a girl's name?

Ruth is a female name from the Hebrew meaning friend. However it can also be a short version of the male name Rutger. Behindthename.com is a wonder naming site, I go there when I'm stuck for name ideas.

What a practical site.

I've just checked my own name for fun and found this: 'Leto GENDER: Feminine.'
Now, that's enough for me. :(

And than this: 'Meaning & History
Possibly derived from Greek ληθω (letho) "hidden, forgotten". In Greek mythology she was the mother of Apollo and Artemis by Zeus.'

Looks like the gender is not enough, I now even got some sons. :P

Lol.  Yeah.  When I first saw your name Leto, I immediately thought you were a girl.  I was thinking about that Greek Mythology Leto at first.  Only after a week or so being on the forum did I find that you were a guy.

Without checking the origins, Leto and Ruth all sounded like musculine names to me. Since the most famous Ruth and Leto are quite... famous, haha. You know, Babe Ruth and Jared Leto.

A son and a daughter, in fact. Apollo was Letho's son by Zeus and the god of light. Artemis, his sister, was the goddess of hunting. So, I'd say that's not so bad.

And here I always think of the Dune series when I think of Leto.

To stay on track: The Dune series could provide a great set of names for a theme. Chani, Feyd-Rautha, Stilgar, Pardot Keynes and so many more unique names. The Bene Geserit could be witches...

You have no idea how right you are with this one.
I am named after Leto, from Dune. Back in the days (yeah, that sound old) when I was but a pequeno newbie here Pam did recognise my name from that series who must have been very popular around the 1980's.
I actually believe that was an reaction on one of my first posts here... may 2010 or so. Good ol' times.
If memory saves me well: that Leto person was also a king. Guess my parents had high expectations from me. :(

Yep, I remember that.  I actually was a little late reading the Dune series and it was still fairly fresh in my mind.  There were two Letos in that story.  One was a duke who got killed early on and the other was his grandson who transformed to be part worm and ruled for like 1,000 years or something.

And about Ruth, that's the name of a dragon in my favorite Dragonrider of Pern series.  And he's a male.  I've used Pern names for many of my Sims:  Lessa, F'lar, F'nor, Robinton, Menolly, Ramoth, Mnementh.  In fact, my newest kitty is named Lessa.  :D

Pern is a great source. I've also used Forgotten Reams, the Shannara series and Tolkien's works for inspiration. Though I absolutely refuse to do Hobbits until we get a height slider.... Something I really wish we had anyway.
A 1920s era house needing heat, AC, new floors, new drywall on the walls and ceilings, new bathroom fixtures, new kitchen cabinets, new water heaters.... The roof is sound, but why didn't I just buy an empty lot?

So let me get this straight: I am named after a dead man and a man-worm? If I would have been born in the 60's that may had make sense since I assume my parents must be trippin' or something, but what kind of excuse could you possibly have in the 80's to call do this! :P

The 1980's is an excuse as it is.  Seriously... mullets, acid washed jeans... the decade wasn't making good choices.

If it makes you feel better I've never heard the name Leto until I saw your name so I always thought it was a male name.

Same here! Plus, in the Italian language (I don't speak it, but my mum does), words and names ending in the letter O are always masculine. If you were named Leta, on the other hand...

To get this thread back on topic, my naming theme at the moment is to use names that fit the personality/history of the parents. Most of my Sims have turned out rather normal, so I haven't used many wacky names yet.  :P
