Young Adult Trait Issue
« on: June 18, 2012, 08:48:23 PM »
When I have my teen in vanilla age up to YA, whatever trait I select is ignored, and I have a 4-trait Young Adult. I have gotten around this by using "testingcheatsenabled," but I was wondering if there was any other way besides cheating or using the Mid-Life Crisis LTR.

Thanks,
[Sdd}

That's really bizarre, I've never heard of anything like that. I've found there are lots of really nice and experienced people on here, so I'm sure someone will be able to help  :D

Welcome to the forum SDD!

Unfortunately, it's a game glitch that will sometimes cause a chosen trait to not "stick".  I've had this happen in every life stage including infant!  The only way to fix it really is through "modify traits" & mid-life Crisis.  I prefer the modify traits cheat because really it's the game's fault your sim doesn't have 5 traits so why should you spend happiness points to fix it.

Plus almost all of the challenges I've done, the person in charge almost always allows you to add the trait back in via this cheat because it is just a game glitch and it's out of your control.

Also, just make double sure that you're clicking the correct button after selecting the new trait.  I've lost many traits by accidentally clicking the X button instead of the checkmark button.

Yes, this problem has happened to me before, and I would just use the 'testingcheatsenabledtrue' way.
But, the teenage girl (Darlene? Or was that the child?) from the Bunch family only starts off with 3 traits instead of the usual 4.
So, there is nothing wrong with your game if the trait doesn't 'stick'.

This happens to me with most birthdays. I have a way around it, it's mostly a superstition - The missing trait only seems to happen when I am controlling the sim and I'm on the tab that has their traits listed, the very first tab. Now what I do is, when the sparkles appear and the sim ages up - I swap the tab to the one with all the need bars. Either that or I just click on another sim's portrait before the trait selecting pop-up comes up. Then, after I have picked their trait, I go back to the birthday sim's traits tab and the new trait is there.

Like I said, I think this is just a superstition and it hasn't been confirmed that this is any way around it, but I do it all the time from habit and it hasn't failed me.

What is the difference between "testingcheatsenabled" and "testingcheatsenabledtrue" ?

I had this happen, when my teen aged up to YA.  I know I clicked on the right button because I accidently forgot to click one other time and knew I had missed it. So now I double check to make sure I have added the trait.  Anyhow, one twin has all the traits and the other was missing one, the last one in aging up.

I used her points to get her the trait, which irritated me as she had the points which I had planned on using on another reward.

Is there a way to get her the reward I had planned; but lost due to the glitch on the trait?

Which has me curious, and maybe a bit off topic, sorry, should a new thread be started?   Anyhow, when we have the Reward points for a YA who is moving out, how does it work for them to be used?  I know so little about the story progession, does it have it programed for the sim to use those points later on, or would they just sit there?

I will admit to dabbling in cheating, so I can answer that question. "Testingcheatsenabled" is the base cheat, using it alone would be useless. "Testingcheatsenabled true" is essentially telling the game: "I want you (The game) to allow testingcheatsenabled." The opposite of "Testingcheatsenabled true" is "Testingcheatsenabled false" Telling the game: "I want you to disable testingcheatsenabled."

The only way you can get the reward is to go back to a previous save and play her birthday over again.  This time, don't use the reward for the missing trait; use the testing cheats to fix it.

And yeah, your other question is off topic and if you want to pursue more information about it, make a new topic.  To answer your question, though, the happiness reward points will just sit there after you move a Sim out.  He/she cannot spend them without being controlled by you.  If you change active households and go back to controlling that Sim, the unused happiness points should still be there.
