Donate or Buy Ambitions to Support our Guide
« on: June 01, 2010, 11:57:37 PM »
If you haven't already bought Ambitions, but plan to do so, please consider purchasing it through Carl's Amazon.com link. It doesn't cost any more than buying it directly yourself and it helps support Carl's Sims 3 Guide as a portion of the sale goes to the site. We have expenses to cover for both the Guide and the Forum, and every little bit helps. You can either to go the Guide and click on the Support the Guide button on the left, or just click here to go straight to the Amazon.com links.

Update Folks who own this expansion and want to give to the site to support hosting costs and moderator perks, visit The Home Page and it will show you a donate via paypal link under the left-side navigation. This is the best way to ensure we get your donation as Amazon offers us a 6% commission.

I just went to Amazon.ca through the link.  They have the release date for Ambitions given as June 29.  I'm still hoping to get it through Gamestop, but it seems to be taking a long time to ship and they haven't responded to my query.  So for now all I can do read about others' experiences with Ambitions.  Sigh.

Hi Pam,

I had a look at Amazon.ca (I'm Canadian) and they want $59.95CAN for it!  I didn't pay that much for the core game OR WA.  I can get it for $39.95US at the EA Store, which is $42.85US according to my converter.  For sixty bucks, I would still have enough left to buy the Prima guide, and buy a couple cups of coffee.  I'm sorry, and I sure appreciate all the work you guys do, but to save $17.10 I think I'll probably go with EA.

The EA price is for the digital download of the game, mind you.  If I wanted a physical copy, I would have to pay for shipping from EA on top of that price.  I would get free shipping from Amazon, but I'm not sure if there are benefits to having a hard copy or not.  It would fun to just download the thing, and not wait for the mail, but I wonder if I can install it on different computers.  I travel with my laptop, but play at home on my desktop, so I would need the game on both computers.  It's no problem installing the disks on another computer, but I have no idea if you can do the same with a digital download.  Hmmm, this has not only strayed off topic, it's making me think, and that can't be good!  LOL!

Phyrie: Wouldn't expect anyone to pay such a premium, that's nuts.

bcollins87: Thanks, I enjoy what I do :)

Yeah, Phyrie, that's a lot of money and if you don't want the disks there's no reason to pay it.  :)

Thanks, Carl and Pam, for understanding.  I wondered if I was out of line mentioning it.  I checked the Amazon.com (US) site and it's $39.99, about the same as the EA store.  But I would pay a huge shipping fee buying from the US, of course.

Do you have an opinion on digital vs. physical?

I had pre-ordered Ambitions at Gamestop.ca for $44.99 but it was taking forever so I finally cancelled the order and went looking at local stores, where I found one for the same price.  I live in Saskatchewan.  I can't understand why it is so much more expensive at Amazon.ca.

Hi Pam,

I'm not too sure how this works in all honesty? I'm in the UK so I followed Carl's UK link expecting it to link to a part of Amazon that will link my purchase to Carl's site. However it took me to Amazon UK homepage. So how will Amazon know that my purchase is there to support Carl's site?

Just a bit confused. Want to make sure I do my bit when I finally purchase Ambitions.

Hi malteser60!

First of all, please don't feel obligated to purchase Ambitions through Carl's link. If you can get a better deal elsewhere, we certainly understand.  The way it works is that if you go to Amazon through the link on the Guide, Carl's site will earn a small commission on anything you buy. Once you've used that link, it's set up for anything you purchase during that visit, including Ambitions.

Thanks Pam. I was planning on buying it from Amazon anyhow as it's the cheapest place to buy it from in the UK. That and Play.com, they're both the same price (plus free postage). So I thought I might as well do it through Carl's site and support it, seeing as I have used it so much.

Now, I just have to convince my boyfriend that I need to buy Ambitions! Not that he's stopping me, it's that I get quite addicted to it, still haven't finished exploring WA, plus I've been promising him that I'll redesign some graphics on his website for quite a while now. I don't think he'll be too pleased if I buy Ambitions and ignore him  :D

I personally prefer physical. It ensures that no matter what may go haywire with the computer and downloading over the internet, you always have the physical copy.

Hi Pam,

Just two questions:

I was just wondering if Carl's site earned the commission if I was already a customer of Amazon?

And, though the link, on the first page of the guide, goes to Amazon.com, it does invite me to shop in Amazon.co.uk.  (I live in the UK.)  Once I switch there will Carl's site still get commission?

The reason I ask is because I often shop at Amazon for birthday and Christmas presents and, if it helps support Carl's site, then I'll set up a reminder on my desktop to always go through the link here before shopping.  Thanks.

Edit: I think you've already answered my second question about the .co.uk commission in the affirmative. Sorry.

Hi Gheez.

Carl changes things on the Guide fairly often and I'm not certain he's still got the Amazon button set up.  I'm looking right now and don't see it.  I'll ask him to come by this thread and give you a better answer.  I do believe your existing Amazon account would count toward commissions for the site, but I'm just not sure how he's got it set up.

Thanks Pam.

Ooh and I see what you mean about changing things. I went to double check where the button is (on my screen on the http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/ page right next to the search box only to find it hidden by a large advert thing that I'd never seen before.

It'll be excellent if it will count as, quoting the Tesco supermarket ad, 'every little helps'.  :)
