Sims not using cars

Is anyone else having this problem?  For some reason after I buy a car/motorcycle/motive mobile, my sims will use it for a while, then all of a sudden will decide that no, they'd much rather take the cab everywhere.  My patches are up-to-date, and I don't have any third party CC (only stuff from the store).  I've tried turning on testing cheats so that I can use reset sim in hopes that would fix the problem, but it didn't.  This is happening in every city and even when I go on vacation to China or wherever.

Try putting the car in your sims invetory.

I've tried putting them in my inventory both with and without selling the parking spot afterwards, and setting cars as my sim's preferred vehicle.  I've even tried selling them and replacing them with both identical or different vehicles.

Have you made it there preferred method of transportation. Not sure of the exact wording, but if you click on the car you can make it the preferred means. That should make them use it.

Has this issue ever been resolved? I went into my dynasty file last night to bring in gen 6 and discovered that my founder has ditched her Preferred Motive Magenta that is in her inventory in favor of the taxi.  All my other Sims are using their preferred vehicles. When I searched the forum for a possible solution this thread popped up. Any ideas how to fix it without using cheats/mods? As I said, its a dynasty file so I cannot use any.

Edited to add: I expanded my search to the entire forum instead of just the miscellaneous help board and found that using resetsim should solve it. I am including the link to the thread in Generations for you Pam since
