And that is exact the thing I have troubles with. Not that my game isn't running anymore, but I just can't find where I actually could create a system restore at the time I want to. It only does sometimes when I install a problem that would change a lot on my laptop, but other than that I just can't see where to do this 'by hand'.

Your computer should automatically create system restore points periodically. Once you go into the System Restore program, it will ask you which restore point you want to use and you just pick the most recent one that was before the current problems started.

Does your game try to start up through the launcher?  I don't do that any longer, but start the game up directly for the .exe file for the game (not the launcher).  If you are trying to start up through the launcher, try bypassing the launcher.  To do that, right click on the icon you currently use to open the game.  Select "Properties".  Select "Find Target" (or "Find Original" ... or whatever comes after "Find ...").  Once the folder opens, look for a .exe file that represents whatever your current version is (for example:  "TS3SP01.exe").  Double-click that and see if your game will open.  If you are already bypassing the launcher ... I'm not certain how to assist you.  I hope this helps.

I got it to work and didn't have to reinstall Windows.

What was the solution? It might help others with the same problem.

I followed the instructions from a friend on my favorite sims forum. Here is what she told me to do:

Uninstall everything, but do it in reverse order (Ambitions, HELS, WA, Sims 3). Delete any folders and references left by going through MY COMPUTER. Run a scandisk, defrag and clean out your caches. Install Sims 3. Update. Install WA. Update. Install HELS. Update. Install Ambitions.

That is indeed what it should do, but my laptop gives me the response that it doesn't have any restore points (only the ones that are created automatically when installing some programs). I know this is too much off topic here. Is there elsewhere a topic about this kind of problems? I'm not sure myself, because this isn't exactly a sim related problem (although it could be one).

That's just strange, Leto.  My computer creates restore points almost every day.  I wouldn't have any trouble finding a point that would work.  I really don't know what else to suggest.  :(

Don't you have to set up how often it does that though?

It may have a setting, but I've never touched it since I got the computer over a year ago.  It also creates a restore point anytime Windows updates and it seems like that's quite often.

That is true, but for some reason I cannot do that. Like I am not allowed, although I am the administrator on my own laptop (at least, Vista lets me think I am...).

Yes, that's true. But normally you don't have to touch it anyway. But it could be just my system, because for a lot of people I know it just has to work.
