Simbacat, before you throw your hands up in disgust (and yes I would be ticked as well) simply try the whole process again. Do a complete reinstall of everything. Wipe all Sims 3 stuff off of your hard drive first, and try again. Might work.

okay..... I already did that. I went through my control panel and uninstalled everything. Are there any other files I need to get rid of?

Well, I'm on a Mac, so you'll need to get specifics from someone else. Good luck. :)

Let's not over-exaggerate, okay? You posted 90 minutes ago. Have some patience.

Anyone check to see if the Painting/Guitar exploit is still exploitable?

I actually just picked up the expansion at Best Buy since I was out running errands. I'll try and remember to check those.

Naaa, not the only one. I will give it a try, too. ;) First let's backup your savefile before doing anything else. If something bad happens, then that doesn't happen to your sims.
After that, defragment your hard drive. That and doing a disk cleanup can already make you get rid of a lot of troubles already. Then reinstall everything. Install now all your games in the right order: The Sims 3, World Adventures, High and Loft Stuff and then Ambitions. Start up the game, so the game can make a folder in your My Document folder, quit the game, and finally replace your backup file with the Electronic Arts (or EA Games) folder in your My Documents folder. Start up your game again and then I think your problem will be solved.

Success!

I could care less if I sound professional or not and thanks Leto, I did all that and I am still getting the "There was an error during startup. Please check the log" I have no idea what this "log" is or where to find it. I hve my game patched to the current patch.

Now something occurred to me earlier. I have been having problems withe my launcher being "unable to connect" and no idea how to fix that. This has happened both before and after the latest patch. I have braodband so pretty sure it isn't my connection. Is there a file somewhere that pertains to the DRM, the launcher or anything else that might not say "EA" or "Electronic Arts" that I should be getting rid of? I know there were files all over my system I had to get rid of when I uninstalled the Sims 2.

Right now I have uninstalled everything. I think I have removed everything involving the Sims. I have never had any problems with this game before and am completely flummoxed as to why this is happening.

Wow, that sounds like a huge problem. In that case the only thing I can recommend is to reinstall your whole OS (operating system). Maybe something bad has happen in your register so reinstalling your whole system will get rid of everything. If you have Vista, backup everything you love to your D drive (if that's the partition that doesn't contain your OS).
Be aware that this can take a whole day before you are finished with everything (including installing The Sims 3 and the expensions).
Succes!

I am not going to reinstall Windows. I do not have the time to do this. I don't think my OS is the issue.

I could care less if I sound professional or not...

You may not care how you sound on this Forum, but I do!  So, if you want some help, you'll have to calm down and stop giving snarky responses.

1. If you will go to the Technical Help board, you'll find instructions for manually uninstalling Sims 3, World Adventures, and High End Loft.  Follow these instructions step by step and remove the programs starting with the newest one first. It's not as simple as removing them through Control Panel. These instructions also include saving your game files.

2. Do some maintenance on your computer with Disk Cleanup and Defrag.

3.  Begin installing the games, starting with Sims 3, then World Adventures, then High End Loft, then Ambitions. Be sure you have your Product Code numbers for each installation as you will be required to type them in during the install process.

Optional: You may want to restore your computer to a previous date so you can start all this fresh. To do the system restore, click the start button in the lower left corner and click on Help and Support. In the search box, type "system restore." Then click on any of the subjects that come up about System Restore and you'll find instructions and a link. Follow the instructions from there.

The launcher can be troublesome sometimes, so if I were you I would try to go into "computer" (or similar) and find the electronic arts folder (I have it under "program(x86)"). Search through that (and in the proper sub-folder) until you find the starting file to initiate the game without the launcher.

If you continue having problem with this I would recommend you to post in Technical Help to have more people to help you. It's hard to find you in this thread and we need to stay on topic.

And that is exact the thing I have troubles with. Not that my game isn't running anymore, but I just can't find where I actually could create a system restore at the time I want to. It only does sometimes when I install a problem that would change a lot on my laptop, but other than that I just can't see where to do this 'by hand'.

Of topic: I thought this topic has already been removed to 'technical help.' Maybe it is handy to do so though. :)
