This is gonna make me sound quite stupid but what is a Disk Cleanup and Defrag, and how do I do them?

It doesn't make you sound stupid.  A lot of people don't know to do these things.  It's routine maintenance on your computer that helps it run smoothly.  What I'm about to tell you is for a Window based operating system.  Disk Cleanup analyzes and deletes all the unnecessary and temporary files on your computer and empties your recycle bin.  Defrag rearranges the files so that your hard drive isn't fragmented.  It puts files together in one place which frees up large spaces on your computer.  It also helps your computer find the files faster.

To run Disk Cleanup, click Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools.  You'll find both Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter in that System Tools folder.  Disk Cleanup will pop up a window letting you select which files to delete.  I delete all of them on my computer.  After Disk Cleanup, run Disk Defragmenter.  If you've had your computer a long time without performing this maintenance, you'll probably notice a considerable improvement in how your computer runs.

I think I may have caused the issue by having the WA Launcher up when I tried to download Ambitions from the QA Store.  Or it may have been an issue with cookies.  But basically the store didn't recognize I had purchased the game, and EADM didn't recognize I had anything to download, but I had gotten the confirmation email.

A simple reboot solved the problem.  EADM started downloading Ambitions after reboot.

I make it a habit to uninstall and completely wipe Sims 3 from my computer before I install a new pack.  I do a Disk Cleanup and Defrag before reinstalling all of the game packs, and ending with the newest one.  It really helps keep the game running smoothly and gets rid of a lot of issues.  If you do it, though, look on our Technical Help Board for instructions on how to save your game files and how to properly uninstall the game.

It's funny.  I had just done that and was waiting for Ambitions to become available for download at EA Store.  When I had that problem I was emotionally devasted. :)

Well, hmmm.  I'm pretty sure XP has the programs in the same place.  Give it another try and make sure you've got the correct steps:

Click on the Start button in the lower left corner.
Click on All Programs.
Double click on the folder Accessories.
Double click on the folder System Tools.

Mine has the Internet Explorer (no add-ons), but it also has several others, including Disk Cleanup and Defrag.

I'm running XP.  You can also find these tools by opening "My Computer".
- Open "My computer".  It should have an icon on your desktop and/or be in your Start menu.
- Right click on the C: drive, select the "Properties" option (it's at the bottom of the list you see when you right click).  
- "Disk cleanup" is on the first tab (the "General" tab).
- "Defragment" is on the second tab (the "Tools" tab).

Ah ha! I fixed my own problem! I followed the link in my earlier post at the top of page 2, In that page there was a link to update or download the EA download manager, I downloaded it and now my problem has been solved! Maybe you should try this, it helped me so it might help you!  :)

I just tried it again and followed the steps - NOTHING! The same pop-up came up again. Thanks for the help though :)

I just downloaded a Defrag tool and am in the middle of using it and all I can say is WOW! 10,608 files were fragmented so it's taken over an hour and a half to defrag them, but hopefully the computer should run better now, even if EADM doesn't work lol.

EDIT: yeeeeeesssssssss!!!!! *runs in circles around house* it's all fixed! I completely uninstalled everything to do with EA, did a disk cleanup and defrag, then installed sims 3, then world adventures, then clicked on the updates part of the launcher and downloaded eadm from there and it works perfectly. :D :D

Nope. I had to actually download one. Weird, but at least I've got it on my computer now :)
