Stairs of Death!...sort of.
« on: June 10, 2012, 07:31:43 AM »
I made a basement that was made for nothing but nectar making/testing/aging. It was an outside basement, with the stairs being out of the house. It was a staircase with a width of 1. I made great-value bottles and decided to drink some of the bottles I had made. Also, I upgraded 2 of my 10 Nectar Makers to have Improved Pressing. When I wanted to pay the bills, the Sim walked up the stairs, then walked right down it again! It canceled the action that my Sim was going to do. I did many things to try to get him to NOT go down it after going up. I replaced the staircase, tried the Use Stairs and Go Here options, and nothing! I had to remove the staircase and use the resetSim action before it worked.

Why did my Sim go down the stairs immediately after going up it?

You didn't have another set of stairs above those stairs did you?

Did the stairs always do that or was there a time when they worked correctly?

I didn't. It was just a stairway to go from ground level to the level below it.

When I wanted to make some Nectar, my Sim went down it. When I wanted my Sim to do something else inside the house, he went up the stairs, then went immediately down afterwards.

There must be something near the top of the stairs that is preventing him stepping off the top step. Have you placed anything around them?

It's hard to say why he can't step off them. Something may have glitched the stairs, there might have been a little variation in the level of the land above the basement. Do you have room to build another set of stairs in a different place? That might work. If you have generations, try placing a spiral staircase to see if that works.

Not even a painting? I remember somewhere reading that this could be a problem.
