If you have WA, you can also go gem hunting on vacation and go ahead and find as many gems as possible and start getting them cut to gain more access to more cuts.

Thanks! That's what I was hopeing. I do have WA and I love to use it for collecting. In fact I don't collect in the home neighborhood only on vacation so that will work good for me.

Life fruit technically must be grown. I found two lifefruit over the course of my entire life of the sim, one was from investigating a glowy hole and the other was the time machine. I ended up planting them and growing my own. Pink diamonds you can get from using the miner, the same with palladium however when asked for palladium a dot will appear on your map showing if there happens to be one in town, sort of like how it works in WA. The other difficulty is you have to get the pink diamond heart shaped cut, which requires you have received one of each type of gem, which will take awhile of mining or collecting around town, or martial arts rock breaking  ;)
Thank you! So I can't just find a pink diamond and get it cut in a heart shape? Or do you just mean you need to find others to unlock the heart shape cut? I have never found a pink diamond so I don't know much about it but I am hoping to find all this before I get to the challenge so that I don't have to stop to look for it then. So anything else you can tell me will be of great help!

You need to find every single gem that is available I believe to unlock the heart shape gem cut.

Oh that I never noticed. I have unlocked it before but just from collecting on vacations! I guess I will have to work at collecting again!

Vacation you said? That means you have World Adventures installed. You can make it yourself a bit more easy with cutting out gems after completing the timber terminator challenge that comes with Martial Art.
Just search for it on the site. There is a guide for it. Of course I can explain it to you here, but that would be to much off topic I'm afraid.

How did you get so far, you just got your game. lol

I did a terrible thing!  :o I used testingcheats to max his motives, he was just a test Sim I made quickly, I wanted to see what the Inventing things did. It didn't take him long to max out Inventing with maxed motives he did it in a few days I think.

Incorrect.  You only have to find 10 different kinds of gems to unlock the heart-shape cut.

If you're only playing the base towns, you'll only find ten types of gems.  So you're both right.  If you go on vacation, then you could find more then ten types of gems, certainly.  Also I've gotten another type of gem from sculpting, so there's that as well.

Yes, 10 from the basegame. Okey. :) But with Ambitions, it remains all of them I thougth (unless there are new gem types I am not aware off). As far as I know only World Adventures added more gems to the game.

samoht04, those are amazing screenshots!! Thanks so much for sharing!

I think maybe one of the consignment shop problems (always closed, can't sell) has its roots in the Real Estate feature, and the storyline of the town. The town is still developing, so it makes sense that until there are more employees the shop won't be open as long.

*off to look for a Real Estate thread*

Yeah darn good screenshots back there, samoht. Mind if I use the time machine one on the inventing guide? :D

I am hoping they just messed up and the gems you collect from mining will some day count toward the heart shaped cut.

I have only seen 2 new ones. One is a gem called Fluroite(not sure of the spelling) than a new metal called Woohooium. I got both from mining. BTW Samoht04, Why did you say you did a terrible thing?? I only play with my motives maxed, it's not terrible I promise!
