horse escaping issues
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:51:29 AM »
I posted recently about not being able to get on my game but I figured it out. I created my family & built up their horse property only now the 2  horses keep escaping. They just walk around on my lot but the problem with it is they're getting out and then are not able to get back in.  I see them upset because they're hungry and tired but can't get back in to their stalls and food. I have put up gates everywhere along the fences (along with the newly added high walls) to give them access back in, but I end up having to give the go here command to get them in. Locked gates do work but they almost seem to be going right through the fence. I've used multiple fencing & have inspected it for gaps.  WHAT is going on?

Been awhile since I played with horses, but make sure the gates are the 2-square/double size gates, and not the 1-square/single size gates. If memory serves, horses can't pass through the single size gates.

got double gates. i said i thought they were just going through the fence cuz i edge scrolled up just in time to see one of  them "appear" at the other side...i'm gonna have to watch them & see what they're doing exactly...
if they can walk through then thats a problem for the major garden i'm working on for my sims...  ???

Do they go outside the fence when playing with the horse ball? In my game they teleport outside the fence if they don't have enough space to play with it, but teleport back when they stop. I have my garden in a separate fenced area.

Definitely would recommend that. Without knowing how they are bypassing the fence, we're not really much able to do more than speculate.

IE: Horse ball play, as mentioned (I've watched a dog ball fly through a wall and go outside, so it's possible); when entering/exiting a stall, they are "spawning" on the other side of the fence (I've had ghosts and time machine children do both); bizarre glitch; something else

sorry pam...how's that?
as for everyone. the horses are indeed walking right through the fencing, the high walls, the stall block walls & the barn walls...everywhere BUT through the fence that seperates the horse side from my sims house & garden. they seem to prefer the side & back of the property behind the barn... :-\. they dont leave the lot thank goodness. i've put up double gates where ever i could to give them multiple access points back in.
i have a foal now also who cant/wont sleep in the stall block with her mom...mom sleeps just fine but the foal is constantly tired & i'm finding i'm having to do resetsim alot on her...
what do i need to do to get the little foal to go to sleep?

Try making the foal active and see if there's a "nap" command on the stall that has mom in it? Or will the foal not go in the stall at all? Make sure there's a lot of clear space in front of the stall if any horses are having trouble getting into it.

mom & baby can both fit into the stall. i've had mom go to sleep & then clicked on the foal's nap option but it stood there & shook its head & a bubble appeared over its head with what looks like footprints in a crossed out red circle...does that mean it cant find the space to lay down? they sleep standing up though...
i changed the horse's side my lot a bit, taking away the large 3 stall barn & putting single stall blocks (w/ walls & rooves) into the paddock. That also freed up some more space for a jumping course.

Foals lay down to sleep. If it's giving that thought bubble when it's already in the stall, you may need to move Mom over just a little bit. Try waking Mom up, putting the foal to sleep, and then putting Mom back to sleep.

Apparently, foals won't sleep in a stall with their mom if it has anything directly attached to the right side, like another stall or a wall. It'll work if you leave even only half a square of free space.
