Does anyone know if this is going to be available for Mac? I looked but it doesn't appear so. Which I thought was strange since the Macs are getting so popular lately. I can't seem to find the older ones for Mac without paying an arm and a leg. I've never played them but I'm very interested in them!

Apparently they will be getting the PC version done and dusted first. So if they do a Mac version it will be later. According to SimPrograms.

I have to say that, while it's realistic, I'm not a fan of the multiplayer aspect, and it doesn't sound like you can play without it. Partly it's just not my thing, and partly I've never been great at games like that, although I like them. Any neighboring cities to mine would probably want to invade and depose me. I'd make a terrible mayor.

It looks fun, though--love all the tiny protesting Sims waving little signs outside City Hall.

You mean it will be multiplayer so you need an internet connection to play it  as there is only multiplayer?
That sound a bit like City Life 2011 which I used to play a little bit. It can be interesting.

I think I heard that there wasn't just a multiplayer option but also a single player.

Oh crud, looks like FrostFlower is right, according to this link from the simcity forums - oddly enough I was there to see if there was any word on if/when there will be a Mac version, but in light of this information I don't need an answer anymore.  It's one thing to have the option (i.e., Sims' Showtime & associated patches), but quite another to be forced to connect to the hive at all times, no matter one's style of playing. There are other city simulators out there, I guess I'll just start looking.

Sigh. :-\

Hopefully the fans get to Maxis, and they realize alot of people want to play offline, and they make it possible to do so.

Sim City is going to be (or rather should be right now) at Gamescom.

Here's the listing of games. Its on the second page. (Pdf)

Can anyone get any info about that?

I'm just curious.  Are you unable to do an internet search to find information about this?  I saw several sites and this one may be a good start.

Sorry Pam, I guess I forgot SimCity was a major game and every major online gaming publication whould be reporting on it, and we wouldn't need to relie on people who went to describe the information released.

I must have misread the first post before as I didn't know Maxim is back.  As far as I know it was taken over by EA at the end of the '90's. Just like what I believed have happened with Bullfrog  (Dungeon Keeper) and Westwood (Lands of Lore).

Maxis was never gone, it just got distracted by Spore.

Yeah, they just gave up The Sims franchise to EA, I guess because it got famous enough for EA to want to put their whole name on it and their money not just their name tag on it.

Maxis's story was quite tragic, if they were successful with the spin-offs, they would still be an independent company.
I just heard SimCity won best PC game in Gamescon.

Just wondering if anyone else on the forum applied/got into the SimCity Beta testing. It's pretty cool so far!
