What a lovely thing it is to finally be able to play again. Here's to hoping the servers won't have issues any time soon!

I'm starting a new region for us forum people. Who doesn't like Discovery Delta, right? Add me in Origin (NagaDontJump) and let's jump right into the game!

PROTIP: Water is a really troublesome resource later on. To avoid having water problems, place a Water Pumping Station right in front of a Sewage Treatment Plant. All you gotta do now is make sure you don't have an overflow.

I am knee deep in this game. It's my first experience with simcity and certainly lives up to the hype. No server issues so far for me. Though I have been on private regions with no friends :( (AmberTL add me ;) ) that's just because I don't want to burden other people's cities with my poor, polluted crime ridden, practice disasters. Tips are welcome. Carity for the atmatuer?

Has anyone successfully invited a friend to join a game? I decided to try making a private game and just inviting people to join. At first I thought I could just type a name in when it said invite players, but it wanted me to actually pick from my friend list (which at the time was empty). I went to my origin account to find that I had a few pending friend requests, so I accepted them and returned to the game, but it still said I had no friend. I thought I might have to log out and then back in for it to work, but still I see friends on my Origin info, but in the game it says I have no friends.

Does anyone know if it will run on Lion OS? I want to make sure because I don't want to waste my money, since EA is refusing to offer refunds. I really want to play it once this "server" nonsense calms down.

I'll add you as a friend Twinmum, if my game will work.

After I posted, I went back to play and was able to invite a friend, but I was only given the choice of inviting from people who were actually playing at the time.

So, what's everyone thought on it so far? I'm thinking about getting it when/if it goes retail.

I'm loving it, but then, I've been a big fan of SimCity from way back when the original came out. What do you mean if it goes retail?

I never played a SimCity before but have been really enjoying it. I would love to be able to increase the size of my city plot but you can't.  :(

Odd though it sounds, I think the tiny city plots in the region are a stratigic feature.  If you had a large location, you could easily build a single city with all facilities.  The small land area forces co-operation with other players and forces city specialisation.

If you are playing alone, develop two or three cities by playing for a while in each, aiming for each to have a specific purpose.  Ie:  Have a town doing lots of mining with lots of workers.   Have a casino city with lots of high wealth homes, entertainment, high wealth shops, tourist attractions and, of course, casinos.  Have a university city.  etc.

The different locations can share resources too, so, perhaps your mining city could provide power to your casino city, or any other utility as a matter of fact. (I tried this with water and sewege, and would not recommended as a permanent solution, but that maybe because I still have a lot to learn!)  Sims travel between cities for work, shopping and entertainment, but, you need to pay a lot of attention to how, and what types of roads you build, and to public transport for it to work successfully.

WARNING:  This is not funny and is a real game spoiler.  In one evening of play I lost count of the desasters which you cannot turn off!  Amongst these events, my university - the most expensive building I have found so far - was totally destroyed three times, each time when I had completed over 90% of the research which also costs a substancial amount of capital.  My city which had over 2,000,000 sims when I began the research is now bankrupt!  I doubt that I will play this again.

My sister and I looked so forward to this game and could not even play when it was first launched, like many others.  I finally got internet since my move and started playing it again.  I guess they put more servers up and now I am really enjoying playing it again.  I think the friend you invite, has to be playing also, because my sister and I played when we finally got online for a short time.  I just tried to invite her and said I had no one on my friends list and she was not on either.  I have been playing this game myself, since the first one came out.  I agree about the small plots, but I also like to go private and become mayor of the cities in that region. :)

A very good advice that has to be said: don't look into how the sims in SimCity work, or why the traffic is so stupidly intense. It will spoil the fun.

Also, another pro-tip: After you unlock the "Garbage Monster"/Lizardzilla disaster, you can use it manually to empty your garbage dumps. Wherever you spawn it, it will keep wrecking your city until it gets to the garbage dump, and then proceed to eat about 10 tons of it. If you place your dump on a corner of the city, isolated from everything, it's even safer to use the monster. This way, you can get rid of trash without polluting the air. Be careful, though, if you spawn it in the wrong direction, it can wreck your dump.

EA are getting the glitches fixed, and with each patch the game is improving.

Such a shame they rushed to release before properly testing the game.  I am still playing, and enjoying the game until the excessive traffic ruins the city - no delivery of fuel, no collection of trash, no sales of products etc.  means the economy quickly collapses.  However, my son has given up.

To reduce the impact of the traffic, try using T junctions only - never use cross-roads.  Don't fall into the trap of using avenues everywhere, they look good, but, can actually make the problem worse.  Use them only for long stretches of road with few exits.  Place your power plants and trade depots close to the entrance and preferably to your left (trafic's right).  Don't place fire stations etc. on avenues, your emergancy vehicles will be forced to turn right and continue in that direction until an exit is reached.

When placing sewer and water plants, place them side by side to keep the water table high.

EA always releases games before it's completely major-bug-free, Wai. Excessive traffic has so far screwed up three cities that I made. It's pathetic, really. When playing in one of them, there's a line in the outside road/avenue that goes farther than the neighboring city.

What I did was send myself some money from it, to a brand new city. I used the extra starting money to lay out a big amount of avenues. So far, it has worked out, so I must disagree with you. Of course, there are some details you have to attend to, but it's still working, while regular roads aren't.

Their latest patch (the traffic fix) was, at least for me, useless. It didn't help save any of my previous cities, and it's acting up on my new one too, as you can see in the picture below.

The only change I noticed in the recent patch was that now, moving trucks go over other cars, in the good old no-clip mode, and only stop at crossroads, like there was no line. That's it.
