Here's one that my Sim Ozzy Osbourne painted.

And here's mine:

Also I think I can guess which game my sim is playing on the computer:

Spore! :D :D

I thought maybe it was a difference in skill level rather than a difference in style.  Like, the more blurry one is a lower skill level?

That could be part of it but not all of it I'm sure.

I've just played two painting sims in the last few days and one made most of her paintings kind of blurry, the other one didn't at all. That ^ blurry one that is like yours was made at lvl 10.

She's like an impressionist see? :D

That's really very interesting.  Thanks for sharing your pictures!  Now I wonder how much the traits really do influence it and which ones make blurry paintings.  What are the traits of your two painters?

The one who made the blurry paintings was the one I started the Centurian challenge with, she had these traits:
Artistic, Ambitious, Handy, Loner and Over Emotional

Then that game became buggy and I restarted with a different sim:
Loner, Over Emotional, Perfectionist, Bookworm, Artistic.
She hasn't made quite as many pictures as the first one yet but she did just max the skill and none of them have been blurry. Here are some:

This second sim is also a writer and she wrote one childrens book. I wonder if that explains the painting on the left. :D

And the first one often made abstract geometric patterns, the second hasn't done that at all, could that be the handy trait? The perfectionist sim made much better pictures from the start, the first sim started out making stick figures and stuff like kids do in kindergarten. :D
I think the traits matter a lot and maybe also the activities they do and the places they go. Maybe your sims with boyfriends make romantic pictures?
I want to do more painters, this is interesting. :)

I think I read somewhere that certain traits produce certain types of pictures, ie artistic trait will sometimes paint pics that are blurry, neurotic trait produces neon type pics, etc.   I just love it that these lil pixel ppl can produce really pretty pictures that are all so different from each other.  ;D

My Sim Ozzy Osbourne is painting a lot right now.  I'm seeing him paint the same picture in different styles.  One was clear, then next time it was blurry.  He's done this several times now.  Here's a $3,500 masterpiece he painted and I have no idea what it is.

Copied from MATY:
No Trait          - If your sim has no other traits, he will always paint the basic version of the painting.
Artistic           - Gives a water-color effect to the painting, though with highlighted border effects on the object of the painting.
Can't Stand Art - Darkens the painting with higher contrast and heavier, thicker brush strokes.
Computer Whiz - Gives the painting a square-tiled effect, obliterating any detail.
Evil                - Tints the picture heavily towards red, most details are left intact.
Grumpy           - Tints the picture heavily towards blue, most details are left intact.
Genius            - Tiles the picture into small white-bordered hexagons/pentagons.
Insane            - Obliterates detail, makes colors more flat and contrasting, shapes become jagged.
Neurotic          - Turns the painting into a bright neon mess.
Virtuoso          - Adds a white flair effect to the painting, most details are left intact.

Great post, Snooty. And to the folks who've shared I think you should know I have to feature some of these paintings in the paintin' guide!
