Is it possible to have multiple romantic interests?
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:55:49 PM »
I know you can't have multiple boyfriends/girlfriends, fiancés/fiancées or spouses. I've tried before and the option would to go steady or propose would not come up, even if the other sim felt my sim was "extremely irresistible". But I don't think I've ever tried to have multiple romantic interests (probably because I jump right to "go steady"). Can a sim have more than one romantic interest at a time?

Yes, they can!  And it will lead to them having the naughty reputation and confessions of cheating, which is silly to me because they aren't even going steady.  But that's how the game handles it.

So you're more seeing it as being more like crushes? I was wondering that too myself.

Two romantic interests get you the "naughty" reputation. The next reputation, for 3 or more, is "Trying out their options". If you don't care what the townies think, you can have as many as you want. Just be careful of what you do in public. It can cause some nasty scenes if one of the romantic interests are around.

Doesn't that mean that you need to be aware of that all those 'candidates' don't met each other and start goshiping? One may accidentially drop your sims name and than you've got yourself a problem.
My sims are always focussing on one sim at a time. I simply don't like cheating. Not in game, not in real life. :)

Like Pam said, you can have as many romantic interests as you want.   Only thing is, after a few romantic interests, if you meet someone else, they will start turning you down to come visit and romantic interactions won't work as well, unless the other sim is flirty.  I know one thing, don't go to a party when your sim has a few romantic interests, things could get ugly, lol. :)

I've never made my sims cheat. In fact, I just had one sim get back together with her ex. But I was planning to try out having a "run-around" sim.

If you have the ability to, get the Above Reproach LTR and that will save you a lot of headaches with the public.   This will not cause multiple girlfriends to get along but it certainly helps with finding woman number 7 or something.  That's the LTR I gave my 2nd gen dynasty heir and things went a lot smoother afterwards.  And once your Sim finds "the one", the 'Clean Slate' LTR is nice so that the other girls (after breakups of course) won't keep coming around and you might even get the faithful moodlet then too.

Precisely! I don't have my sim go around cheating; but, the male she's interested in does it constantly ("commitment issues"). For me, a romantic interest isn't like a boyfriend. I think the game is overly sensitive. You can become a romantic interest just by confessing attraction, even though you haven't kissed or anything. I don't think that should count against the sim's reputation.

Maybe the game thinks "confessing attraction" to multiple sims is playing with other sims' hearts and that it's mean to do that.

yes, unfortuntely! In my past I would tell men i found them attractive, knowing they were off limits, and it never became a "romantic interest". I watched while women told my husband the same thing. To me it's just flirting and ends there. But, EA has made it iinto a big thing. Reputations, etc. should be on those who have committed themselves (i.e. boyfriend, fiance, etc.).
Guess it's a cultural thing.

You mean it differs in your country?

Depends on what you mean by MY country. I'm an American (with French citizenship), and often flirted at work. My husband is French, and he never flirts, but women flirt with him. He doesn't understand why, and I do. Flirting does not always mean romantic interest.
Now my first husband took it a step further and that's why when he returned home one day and I told him "You don't live here anymore".

Okey, this is getting a bit too personal for you perhaps, so I won't ask further about that (out of respect that is).

But flirting has indeed a different meaning in different countries I've learned recently. That's why I was asking.
Here in Holland for example it is okey to flirt, even if you are taken and I do it sometimes just to get things done by older woman (10+ age difference), as they seem to be more... how shall I put this... sensitive for it. But that is innocent.
I can tell you that in England flirting is somewhat equal to cheating as I've recently found out. Those things can be discussed, as this is simply a matter of culture difference, but I wasn't aware that this differ from country to country.

To take this back to the sims: in this game the developers have choosen for any flirty interaction is meant romantically. So if your spouse or whatever see's your sim doing it, you've gotten yourself a big problem.
Pretty funny isn't it, concidering this game is originally American. ;)

That's where I find it funny and weird. OK, maybe I'm not a typical American. But, I still see telling someone they are attractive, or look good because of their clothing or happiness, to be a compliment and nothing more.

Going beyond compliments is where the problem is.
