No fear.  If I had that kind of money to spare, I think I could find something better to do with it than gamble it away!

The actual gambling is done via two Premium Content items, the slot machine and the automatic Blackjack table. My sim made about 20,000 in one day from alternating between the two!   There are some adorable animations, and some new moodlets as well.

Gambling counts as a new skill, and shows up in the journal so you can keep track of how much your sim has won or lost. It works pretty much the same as any other skill, with 10 levels. There are no skill challenges for gambling though.

I'm wondering how long it takes to get that first point of gambling skill?  I've been having my Sim go to the casino when he has nothing more important to do, and it seems to be taking a long time to get a skill point.  Then again, maybe it just seems like a long time to me because I find gambling about as interesting as watching glue dry.     Or could it be because I have him bet small amounts?  Does placing larger bets increase the skill gain?

I was trying to spend some money because my dynasty has way too much (go figure!) and I had several members play at the blackjack tables and two others at the slot machines.  The people at the slot machines gained the skill like four times faster than the blackjack players.  The two slot players were doing big bets and winning §5k regularly and I was aggressively playing the blackjack players with the §10k buy in.  After several hours, black jack players only seemed to have 1 point each and both slot players had 4 or 5 points.

So does the higher skill of gambling you have make your chances of winning more money and losing less higher?
And does lucky and unlucky traits affect this at all?

I haven't noticed an increase of winning but I did notice that if a Sim doesn't win very often they will get the Unlucky moodlet for 24 hours.  I'm sure having the Lucky or Unlucky traits play into it but no one in my dynasty actually has those traits. I may do some testing with another household.

Well, that's good news for my Sim because he usually loses money at blackjack but almost always wins at the slot machine for some reason.  So if the skill gain is faster at the slot machine, maybe my boy can actually make a bit of money while trying to gain the skill.  Thanks, Ricalynn.

I just thought I would mention that your sims can learn a new skill (but no challenges) when they go to the casino...the Gambling skill.  It is not a hidden skill, as it shows up just gardening or cooking.
