Union Cove Force Close
« on: June 02, 2012, 10:52:18 PM »
I installed Union Cove just today.  I have Late Night and Town Life Stuff.  The game loads fine, when I click on New Game, then select UC, the town seems to load up.  When it's almost done loading, my computer notifies me that The Sims 3 has stopped working.  Any help?   ???

If you don't have all of the expansion packs you need to run Union Cove from the save file that is provided on its page.

No, that's not right.  The expansion packs were used in making Union Cove, but not having them won't prevent you being able to use the town.  It just means the items from those expansions will be replaced by something else and you won't have the game play from those expansions.

Union Cove is a large town and is very graphics heavy.  Not everyone can run it successfully.  How far are you getting in the load before your computer gives you that message?  Also, I've had times where I got that message, but I just ignore it and the game will start back loading again.  So, maybe just let it go for a little while and see if it will finish even after giving you that message.

The last thing that comes to mind is whether you have a powerful enough graphics card.  If not, it could cause problems with Union Cove.  Have you checked the game specifications against your computer?

@Anushka:  Am I right about this?

The game is fine up until the town is almost done loading. Then, my computer gives me that message.  It then shuts the game off by itself.  I haven't really even gotten to the town, just to the loading screen where it says "Welcome to Union Cove" and gives the tips.

Well, check the graphics card then.

You need all of the expansion packs in order to be able to use the the "start new game" button for Union Cove.  If you don't have all of the expansion packs, you can still use Union Cove, but you need to start it with the save file provided on the page where yoou download Union Cove, a couple of lines below the like for downloading the world.

Pam, Someone without all the Expansion Packs needs the Save File. We first encountered this problem when testing the first versions of Union Cove when Ausette and Schipperke who didn't have the current EP's were unable to load the World. Turns out the Save File worked fine for them so that's why we have the Save File as well. It's not needed for Stuff Packs though, you can still use the World file if you don't have them.

For the saved file you need to download using the link on the second paragraph which is linked as 'this saved file' which I have bolded, you need to go to the Guide Page to get the link though.

Quote
Download Union Cove (125mb)
Click Here to Download our Sims 3 World. If you have trouble downloading, right click the link and choose 'Save File As...'. It must have the .Sims3Pack extension on the end. The file's name will determine what is displayed on The Sims 3's world selection menu.

If you do not have all expansion packs installed, download this saved file and extract it to your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves folder to load UC.

I just saw this topic, but it is already cleared out. This issue came with Pets and patch following it - before it was as Pam described it, but after Pets, game will always crash when trying to load world created with EP's you don't have. Stuff packs and store items are replaced without problems.

I'll take advantage of this thread to ask, do we need EP's up to Pets or up to Showtime? I don't have any stuff packs but I have all EP's but Showtime(doesn't seem appealing to me)

Right now you don't need showtime as the version of Union Cove with showtime's features is in development.

I have all the game items that were used in UC, except for FLS and OLS, and I still get a crash. I have a very sufficient graphics card and meet the system requirements as well. But my crash will only happen after 15-20 minutes of game play.

Question here was about the crash when trying to load UC, not while playing. That happens when you don't have all EP's used to build it, and try to load new game.

Crash you get while playing might be caused because of the RAM - how much RAM you have? If you have more than 2 GB there are ways to assign more than 2GB that is usually assigned to Sims - and which is not really enough for smooth play in UC :)
