Sims Movie?
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:19:22 AM »
I was on the Sims Wikia while back, looking at the levels for the film career, when I also saw "The Sims (film)" there.  Apparently, 20th Century Fox bought rights to a Sims movie, from the perspective of a Sim realizing that life was all just a simulation game.  Check it out:

http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/The_Sims_%28film%29

Sounds both interesting and odd to me, overall a very unique plot and idea.  What do you all think?  I'm not really sure yet...  ::)

Yeah cool, isn't it?
I've read about it a couple of years ago, but wasn't aware of the page you linked to. Interesting story concept. I had no idea what would be interesting in a sims movie rather than a player sucked into the game spending the rest of the movie to get out of it.
This however, is a nice synopsis.

If it does end up being made, I hope it takes a break from the general game-to-movie formula, because many of them end up as flops.  I wonder when it's going to come out?  I kinda doubt what the Wiki said, since "sometime in 2012" is such a tentative release date and they'd be advertising like crazy if the movie were coming out this year.  8)

I truely can say I don't have the answer. :)
But whenever it will come out I don't think it will actually be recorded in the game itself. Despite the very cool camera angles and panning and zooming you can do it is still too much limited compared to 3D animation programs such as Blender 3D, which is free by the way.
Therefore I think that whatever they are planning to do there, it will be using objects from the sims (1, 2, 3, 4 or a combo of those) but added in a 3D animation program.
And I think you're right about the flop thing. As that is how many game movies turned out in my opinion.

EDIT: I wonder if this movie will be in English, or in Simlish with subtiles.
I hope the last one. Saves synchronizing for other countries outside the US.

Seems strange though, they said that the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) removed the page for it then put it back up. Yet they don't link to the said IMDB page and when I searched there, I couldn't find anything. I even searched the producer and writer and still found nothing, not even an upcoming movie. I'm thinking it probably was cancelled after all.

Such a shame if it's cancelled!  I read on the wiki that it's supposed to be live-action, I think it would be better if it were in-game.  The Simlish w/ subtitles would be great, since we would know for sure what some of the questionable translations are!  And is Andie a boy or girl?

The whole idea seems a little weird to me because I don't get turning a game into a film and all but if it does get made and it stays true to the game and isn't ridiculous then it'll be fine, Lol. I hope it's not a real-life actor/actress thing and they actually use the Sims to film it.  :P

It's there, just nothing there to see.

I see what you're saying samoht04, it just says "In Development".  I hope that it isn't untrue to the game, ridiculous, or the actors treating it like its nothing and not doing a good job.  But I really do hope it turns out good!  :)

It had better not be an actual movie of the sims! I don't think it is, but using the game would be silly - Machinima is ok for YouTube but it looks so silly when it's supposed to be professional. Imagine watching the Sims International Film Festival movies.. But in an actual cinema? Wouldn't seem right..

Well, I don't think it should necessarily be captured in game like a Machinima, but should still look fairly like the game.  I wonder if this is in the time period of TS2, since the Wikia said that it was set in Pleasantview.  I've never played TS2, but at least I know a little bit about it, enough to know about Pleasantview.  We shall see...  :o

The sims has a history and as far as I know it's this order: 3, 2, 1. Look at the Goth family, than you know what I mean.
It could be that this storyline would be taken into a movie, but like I said: as animation, not a machinima game.
But whatever they will choose, it better be a good movie, otherwise this would be very bad for the whole sims franchise.

Good point, Leto.  I hate when one bad film ruins a whole franchise.  Well, at least EA has us.  I know I buy their products like my life depends on it.  :D

Haha! I had that as well. But I don't have all the stuff pack myself at this moment, which does say something.
When it comes to movies: I am very picky. But mostly I can see on the cover and the text that comes with it if it is a good one and mostly I am right. Probably my DTP background.
But... I'm heading offtopic here.

Whenever the movie comes, I hope the makers will know what they are doing.
Just pass it on to Spielburg, if they have doubts. ;)

SO true!  The stuff packs didn't interest me as much, especially when I read the description for Outdoor Living Stuff.  It looked like all I was buying for my hard-earned cash was a lamp and a grungy tent.  It would be kind of cool to have all of the little colorful bubbles with the plumbobs inside of them on the launcher to be filled, though.  I just don't know if I would even use a lot of the stuff anyway.  The only Stuff Pack I have is Town Life Stuff, and there are a few new features such as cheesy men's hairstyles, ok women's hairstyles, some clothes and washers/dryers.  But then again, Town Life was a gift.

Well I have seen on YouTube there is a ''horror'' spoof of The Sims and it's really funny. So I think a movie maybe about they find out there in a game would be funny.
