I'm having trouble with starting out with towns I downloaded from the exchange

I'm having trouble with starting a new game using towns that I download from the Sims 3 exchange.

Without specifics, none of us can help you with the problem.   What problem are you having?  Please be as specific as possible.

My problem is whenever I try to load a town from the Sims 3 Exchange it will go really slow and then really fast.  Afterwards, a box comes up and says "The Sims 3 has stopped working."

How are you trying to load it into your game?  Are you choosing download through the website and then watching it load to your launcher?  Does it completely load to your launcher or is only when you hit install item that this happens? 

If this is not the steps you are taking, exactly what steps are you taking to upload this town?  Was it a download from another site so it's a .zip file that had to be extracted?

And when it downloads from the exchange that is when you get the popup that it has stopped working? So it never fully downloads into your launcher?   Have you tried hitting the save file button below the Add to game button?  It should download to your Computer downloads file then you can move it into your Sims 3 Downloads folder to try and install it.

From what I understood, you have problems with starting a new game (which means you probably install them correctly). What you described looks like when you try loading the world that includes EP's you don't have in game. Before Pets it was possible, but after that it isn't - you can't start new game with a world that requires EP's you don't have. You can load the game without SP's and store items - they get replaced.

Anushka's right about the EPs. Some of the worlds on the exchange don't even mention what is required.
There are somegood worlds at www.mysimreality. I've used them and they work fine. Some are with people in a save file and some aren't. There is one that is completely devoid of lots, so you can place what you want.
