Seabody, will you please write a guide in a topic here on how to dig in these kind of files?

I would like to learn more about this, and I'm sure others will too.

Sure, I'll write a guide.

Unless you are experienced with gamecode, or can remember what you changed and go back and change it back, it's probably not a good idea for just anyone to go digging around in the game code and changing things. If certain information is stored in more than one place, or effects more than one thing, then you could crash your game or render it unplayable.  If you're willing to take that risk though it could be a fun learning experience. Of course it would probably be considered 'modding' so you wouldn't be able to play the game with altered files for challenges. I have discovered that even some small 'fixes' that simply turn an object on so you can use it from buydebug - like the fastfood van - can crash the game. I believe it was the space for the fastfood van. As soon as you clicked it the game crashed.

I did note that in the tutorial, and recommended backing up gameplaydata.package, although the folder that it's in (Program Files) is read-only without Administrator Permissions, so it's not easy to screw up the game.

Here's the guide, Leto. :)

Boy or Girl, Just for the record

I was reading through the pregnancy stuff, and it says you have to eat 10 apples or watermelons, depending on if you want a boy or girl. I just wanted to correct that in saying that if the pregnant sim eats 3 apples right away one after the other after getting pregnant, it will also turn out a boy. Same goes for the girl with the watermelons.. 3 watermelons right after each other and you get a girl!

The game code actually says that it's five of the required fruit, not three. I'm not sure about if they have to be one after the other either, I'm pretty sure it's at any time while the sim is pregnant but that may not be the case. The five fruit thing is definite, though. :)

There are actually a ton of topics about this and everyone always says three but there are a lot of us on the forum where 3 didn't do the trick so as a standard we always say do 10.   Yes the coding says 5 but I've had 6 apples before and still gotten a girl so I always do like 30 because if I want a specific sex that particular fruit is all they will ever eat for the entire pregnancy.

I'm going to be merging this thread with another as soon as I can find it.  If someone else finds it for me before then, just let me know.  Edit: I found Seabody's post about useful pregnancy information and it's now merged.

I believe that the gender is locked the moment your Sim enters the second trimester.

Coding says the gender is decided at random (if fruit hasn't been eaten/doctor hasn't been asked) at the moment of birth. As far as I can remember, anyway. I've also heard of experiments where the same pregnant woman had a baby while eating no fruit and it was a different gender each time.

EDIT: I've remembered that the "experiment" was my own. ::) Pretty sure others have tried it as well, though. Anyway - Lori in my first legacy attempt had ate nothing, fruit-wise. I saved on the morning of her third day (She was due the baby at lunchtime because that's when it was conceived) and she had a boy when I re-entered my game. It crashed while I was designing the nursery, so I reloaded and she had a girl the next time.

Then whenever I read that it's locked at second trimester, that information was incorrect. Nevermind~

Well yeah. Many people say it's locked at all different points in the pregnancy. It's like the common misconception that sims get resurrected by Grim if they have the loser trait, when that only applies to unlucky. I'm only reporting what has more or less been proven?

I have had the same experience as Fez I have saved the just a few hours before a Sim gives birth and played the game and got one gender then had the game crash and played from the save point and had the other gender.

  • The Maximum Multiplier of having multiple nooboos is 30. Every hour you watch Kids TV or Radio, 2 is added on to the base Multiplier, and every hour you watch Kids TV and Radio, 5 is added on to the base Multiplier.
  • An Addictive Bonus to Average Mood Per Pregnancy Book read by Mom and Dad of 15 (each) is applied when a parent reads a pregnancy book.

I suspect that the Maximum Multiplier is the maximum chance of having a multiple birth without Fertility Treatment. So the chance for twins and triplets is capped a 30% without Fertility Treatment. However, I could be very wrong about this. I also recall reading somewhere that the mood bonus from the pregnancy books helps to determine how many of baby's traits you get to pick.

There is an easier way to triplets you have to have your sims try for a baby multiple times even after you hear chimes. Then through the pregnancy have sims Woohoo at least twice a day. Certain Twins or Triplets. NOTE this only works providing there's Six or Less sims in the household as you cant exceed 8 sims in a household.

I have to disagree with this.  There are things known to increase the chances of twins and triplets, but this isn't one of them.

Not that I've fanatically tested this, but as part of a story I was working on (and because I had all sorts of background noise I couldn't be sure I heard the chimes), I did have a couple do this. They wound up with a single son.
