I am seriously considering doing a factory restore of the laptop. I don't know where else to look for registry keys, and I don't know what else would work.

There would be no harm in doing a factory reset of the laptop and at this point it may be the smartest thing to do. I have to say though, you seem to be rather unlucky with this issue because it really shouldn't have caused problems of this magnitude.

I wish you good luck.
Kindest Regards
KJ

Well, well, well. What do you know. I had tested out the...whatever the thing is called, that detects problems with sims, and it mentioned that the skuversions for WA and Late Night were either missing or corrupted. At that point I didn't have either installed. I installed WA the other day, but there was no change. I tried running the thing again, to see if it had cleared it up but it wouldn't work. Something about extracting files. On a whim I decided to download late night, just on the off chance that it was because the expansion was missing, and I guess it worked. I hadn't really wanted to have late night installed for when I did the new dynasty, but I guess Fate had other ideas. I will be installing generations, as I do enjoy the IF's and am curious to see how they will play out within a dynasty. However I do want to try out some of the other professions first, just to see how easy, or hard, they are to max, as well as supermaxing skills. So it may be a while before I actually get started with the dynasty but I am so glad the problem is fixed. I just hope nothing else messes things up.

Sims 3 stops working/crashes

So I managed to get the launcher error sorted, now it's something entirely different.

I went in, created an awesome sim, choose a plot, a nice cheap one, saved, then the game stopped working. I have no idea why it happened, and I surmise that if I go back in it'll only stop working again once I'm in the game but before I have a chance to do anything.

Do I need the rest of the expansions to make it work properly with having them all in origin? Or is there some other underlying cause? This is seriously annoying as I thought I'd finally be able to play, then this happens.

Oh, and when I look in the programs folders, they are set up vastly different than they were on my last laptop, so much so that it seems alien. >.<

I read this and your other thread and honestly I think you have to do a fresh reinstall. Uninstall everything, backup any saves, then reinstall all your EPs and SPs. You don't need to have every EP or SP to run the game. When you get to reinstalling, reinstall them in this order Base Game> World Adventures> High-End Loft Stuff> Ambitions> Fast Lane Stuff> Late Night> Outdoor Living Stuff> Generations> Town Life Stuff> Pets> Master Suite Stuff> Showtime obviously miss out the ones you don't have. Then patch up, restart the game and see if the problem is fixed. :)

As I said, when looking at the program stuff it's set out very differently to how it was on my old laptop, so I don't even know where to find the saves. I don't know why it's different, maybe cause it's a different laptop although I doubt it. Perhaps a reinstall might fix that, perhaps not.

The saves should be in Documents>Electronic Arts> Sims 3>Saves. They are always in documents, never in program files.

Try the reinstall, there's nothing to lose?

Lysita,

Are you sure you did the manual uninstall as directed in the topic on the Technical Help board?  You mentioned not knowing how to remove the registry keys, but those instructions are included with the manual uninstall instructions.

I also see that you've started a new topic regarding a continuing problem.  I'm going to merge it with this topic so that everything regarding your computer will stay together.

Lysita,

Even though this is a new issue, I'm going to merge this thread with your original one so that all of it can be together.  You can change the title of the thread to update for the new issue if you like.  Do this by using the Modify button on the first post in the thread.

Gah! Reinstall didn't work, still doing it. This is so annoying and frustrating, not to mention ridiculous. I really need this fixed, otherwise what was the point of getting a new laptop for playing it.

OK, I got it working. Had to 'disable visual themes' and 'disable laptop composition' as well as turning the DEP back to it's original setting. So far so good.
