Create a World
« on: May 25, 2010, 12:50:03 PM »
Strange that I didn't find any other topic about the Create a World tool. But well, here is one now. In case there is still another one than I will find this one closed nevertheless sometime.

Anyway, I am learning the program now with the use of this excellent video I've find on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82j_YJ01Bac&playnext_from=TL&videos=hXvW4hkujj8.

I've not really much to say here further. But however, if one of you find another or even better video please reply and post the link. Although the program looks difficult at first sight, I bet it isn't once I dive in.

By the way: I am trying to recreate Liberty City from Grand Thaft Auto (GTA). Not sure if the whole city actually will fit in Create a World, but I will give it a try anyway.

If one of you find the Heightmap of Liberty City, please give me a pm and I will send you my e-mail adress. Because I really want to have that.

Okey, I have a question myself. Wherever I download Create a World I always get it automatically installed in the Dutch version. But because the tutorial is in English and questions about it on this forum are also in English I want to download the English version. Question is: where to do that?

I'm not aware of how Create a World works or is installed, but can there be something similar to this thread where it is explained how to change your game's language?

Could be. But I am not really sure of that Create a World will take the language from the already installed game, or from the account that is created at www.thesims3.com, and therefore the given country the member lives in.
For now I am running it in Dutch, which is a bit of a pain in the you-know-where, because of the constantly required translation to the tutorial and vice versa. But anyway, it works however, so maybe I just need to stop complaining. :D
By the way, it is a wonderful and user friendly program once you know how to handle it. You should definitely give it a try.

Yes actually, in your CAW files you can find Sunset Valley lite and Riverview lite (providing you have downloaded Riverview), which is exactly what you've asked for; templates with roads added.  On my computer, they're located in the C: drive > Program Files (x86) > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 Create a World Tool > UserToolData > Worlds.  When you open up CAW, go to File > Open World.  Both Sunset Valley_Lite.world and Riverview_Lite.world should be available for you to modify.  You will probably want to Save As right away so you don't save over the original world.

So using that method can you edit the town just like it is in Game? With all the houses and stuff? Or is it just the Height Map?

It's only the land and the roads.  But I'm sure someone could unearth at least the real Riverview .world if he looked.

That helped me tons! I was under the assumption that it was set up exactly like photoshop or gimp and when I logged into it I was lost. I mean if I knew what I was doing it might look like the above mentioned, but not at first glance.

That is weird, I saw this topic popping up in my 'Show new replies to your posts' while thinking that finally someone had taken the time to dive in Creat a World. But thatt was me? I must have totally forgotten this. :S
... Weird...
Anyway, I do not need a map of Liberty City, as I have closed that entire project because I do not have the time for it anymore.
But if anyone still has questons related to this wonderfull program feel free to ask. I still know how it works so.

I think this was mentioned when samoht04 built a world for Ruby.  What about the possibility of someone building a special Carl's Sims 3 World just for us to have?  If anyone feels competent enough to tackle something like this, I'd be glad to give the blessing of Carl and the Forum if it turns out to be a good world.  Our members might enjoy having a bug-free world that's an official Carl Sims 3 World.

Any thoughts?

I haven't got a clue on how to work with CAW... Will give it a try in a few minutes, maybe edit this post after I get the hang of it.

Also, I would be happy to place lots, starter-households, decorations and spawners in a new world made for this guide.
