There's a cheat for that?
Yes, if you put in testingcheatsenabled true AT the main menu, before you choose your family, than after the family loaded, find the little spot, normally between the treasure box where it shows your total happiness points and the number you have now and hold control+click the left mouse button it adds 500 points. Do it long enough and you can have enough points to get whatever you want. I'm not always clear on where it is so I'll show you:

Also another thing I noticed was right after Ambitions came out, I had all 4 of my sims join the gardening job, sold a bunch of money bags on the one sim and all of them got promoted. It was pretty cool!

I'm going to try to explain what I'm trying to find out. I welcome any comments from other gardeners in Sims. If no one knows, then I'll have to create an extended test case.

In these crude drawings, the dark black lines represent the grid we find on the ground in buy/build mode. Plants can be planted at either
1. the intersections of these lines,
2. the center of the square,
3. or the spaces in between.

This example is how I place my money trees. The red boxes are the trees, the green boxes represent adjacent grass, bold black squares are the lines seen in Buy mode. I notice that I only get money seed drops on the very outside edges of this area, not between the rows of trees.

So now I'm wondering whether dropped money seeds need an entire bold square of free space in order to drop, as portrayed below with red money trees placed one to a square, with a full square of grass in between.

If this is true, then my rate of drops should dramatically increase by changing the configuration, since all of the trees in the center of the grove are presently unable to drop seeds in my original way.

The trees will drop their seeds regardless of how you have them placed in the illustrations.  Once your trees reach Perfect, then they will drop 1 seed each on either the 2nd day of perfection or the 3rd.  They will then no longer drop any seeds after they drop the first and only one.  If your trees are dropping more then 1 seed, it is a glitch.  That is the way the game was written, 1 seed per tree.  I put my trees in this configuration with x being a tree and - being space.

xxxx-xxxx
xxxx-xxxx
---------
xxxx-xxxx
xxxx-xxxx
---------

The seeds will drop where ever there is an open spot for them.

You plant them right up against each other, two rows each against each other, except for the space after 4 trees, and an empty row, right? Then the open spot need not be a full square. I hadn't realized one tree drops one seed and that's all. In the past my larger gardens had one or more seeds dropped daily, but I guess that was from keeping them fertilized so they'd all promote up to Perfect.

I just ran 8 days fast-forward, watering, weeding, and fertilizing. No trees newly turned Perfect, and no seeds were dropped.

You've cleared this up for me, thank you!

I had always wondered that! Thanks, Wildred! LlamaMama, when I first started playing I always planted right beside the house and one time I found a money seed in my living room! At the time I was very confused thinking where in the world did that come from? Now I know lol but then it kinda startled me  ;D.

*laughing*  That would have startled me too Esther!  I have been awake far to long in one stretch and found this extremely amusing. *walks off chuckling*

@ LlamaMama, absolutely correct!

When I was writing this, I was laughing too, but back then I didn't find it so funny! Hehe. Glad I gave you a laugh for the day!  ;D

Ah! Thanks. I try to only use the cheats for testing purposes, but I may as well know one more.   :D

That's cool! I've never had multiple Sims registered for the same job at the same time. Good information to know!

That's not my strategy because it's been my experience that the game needs time to "seed the seeds." Don't believe me? Cheat and give yourself 40k happiness points to get a Collection Helper for a brand new Sim. Then look at how many seeds there are in the neighborhood. There's definitely some, but not many. There's half a dozen places in Sunset Valley where the Special Seeds spawn and I'm not sure if I've ever found them on day 1.

Maybe there's hope for Barnacle Bay then, but probably not.  I'm on week 3 of my first game there and I've found only two locations that spawn seeds.

Few seeds, and no public garden for harvesting. When starting with low funds, how is one supposed to start a garden? Probably the lettuce and grapes on the Coastal lot are placed for that reason. Ticks me off.

This is on par with no skilling books in Twinbrook's library.

I've not played in Barnacle Bay, haven't even downloaded it, but wouldn't it be the same way as SV, TB or RV? Couldn't you go into Edit Town and place gardens?

Yes, I've done that, placing the Twinbrook garden in BB, but it seems the town should have come fully-supported.

I agree! That's why I hardly ever play TB, the library supposed to come with skill books! Why else go to the library? Lol except I also go there to read recipes because they learn them quicker!

I never knew recipes were in the library! Do they have bait books too?

The libraries do not have bait books nor do they have the recipe books.  But once you acquire those books and then take them to the library, your sim will read them faster.
