Are Alien skins available as they were in TS2
« on: May 17, 2012, 01:08:21 PM »
Hi,

Newbie here again.  One of the things I really enjoyed in TS2 was the fact that I could download different skins for my people.  As an example Tiger skins or blue skins etc.

Does TS3 have this?  I dabble in colour genetics in real life and that was my favorite part, mating people in TS2 with different skins to see how the child would turn out.

If these do exist, can anyone recommend where I can find some?

By the way, I only downloaded the game, patches and some expansion packs last night so I haven't even had a chance to try playing it yet.

Thanks,

KLK

With just the base game you can get blue and green skins as well as adjust the light/darkness of them.

I had a bright blue person have a child with a white person and they had twins. One was blue, and one was black.  :D

Black?  That doesn't sound right.  How exactly did that happen?

What about more "exotic" skins?  Are they available somewhere?

Not really that I'm aware of.  If there were, it would be third party custom content and we don't link to that because it can be harmful to your game.  The closest thing to what you're looking for would be in the Pets expansion.  The cats, dogs, and horses can have all kinds of coats that you can mess with.  In my DecaDynasty game, I'm also doing a line of cats that's in its 4th or 5th generation and the coats are very interesting at this point.  There's a link in my signature if you want to take a look.  You can also find them here in the Swap Shop.

Thank you all.  I appreciate your help and patience with me.  To think that I am also tutoring my sister as I go along learning!  However, I do have TS2 experience which she doesn't have so she is jumping from TS1 to TS3 so it will be a whole new game for her.  Maybe not having TS2 would make it easier but I'm looking forward to playing.

Thanks to everyone!

No idea where the black gene came from! The blue dad I'd created specifically for this family, and the white mum was adopted as a child, maybe she had mixed race parents and just ended up quite light skinned?  Or maybe she was actually black but albino, although I doubt The Sims includes albinoism.

Shall I take screen shots of my multi ethnic family?  :D

Welcome to the forum Stangbanggang! It's always nice to see new members around.  ;D

I can absolutely confirm this as I've seen tons of custom skins in use on other sites, but I'm afraid I don't use them myself so I don't know where to get reliable, good quality ones. Unlike in The Sims 2, which provided an offical Body Shop that you could make your own skins with, Sims 3 skins have to be make with third-party programs that may or may not be any good. You might want to check around a forum that's involved with the CC community.  :)

I actually have a theory about this. My idea is that skin "colour" (the particular scale of light to dark you picked from the six options in the menu) and skin "shade" (how far along the scale the skin colour is set) are independently inherited traits. So, Sims can get their skin "colour" from one parent and their skin "shade" from the other. By the sound of it, the baby of your family got his normal skin "colour" from his mother and his dark skin "shade" from his father.

I'm pretty sure adopted childen don't have any special hidden genes, which is a shame.  :-\

And from what I remember, isn't there also a small chance for a mutation to occur? I don't know if it affects skin, but I know it affects hair. I've had black and regular brown produce the ugly greenish-brown hair color, a mutation.

But your theory does make sense, especially when the parents are on different "colours" as you put it.

Oh, sorry guys.  When I saw "black", I was thinking of the pure black like what comes on Grim.  Please disregard my comment.
