Okay, just in case the Equestrian Center and a Fishing Spot is needed in a town to spawn unicorns I edited the following rule —

  • If the town you want to play in does not have an empty lot to build a home, then you are free to use Edit Town to make that happen. Additionally, you may also use Edit Town to place the Equestrian Center and change one lot type to a Fishing Spot.

I'm not having any luck getting a unicorn in Bridgeport, and it's getting very frustrating. I am switching towns.

Have you used Edit Town to change one lot type to a Fishing Spot and do you have an Equestrian Center? I reworded the rules one last time so it is crystal clear.

Oh, I feel so foolish. I thought that since there were lots my Sims could go to fish that they were fishing spots, but I just looked it up and apparently they are not. I will try that then before I give up :)

Well, we can feel foolish together -- I thought the same thing.

Oh thank heavens Metro. You have saved me. I am seven weeks in in my practise still with no pet. Also thanks to Chuckles! I am in Bridgeport and have had no luck with unicorns, either. Off to install an equestrian centre! Thank you! *singing*

I was trying to play in Bridgeport also, and was having the same problem.  As I read different sites, I started to see a common theme, the unicorns always spawned at fishing spots. I started looking and saw there were no "Fishing Spots" in edit town. To test my theory I placed a Fishing Spot from another EA town (40x40 lot) in the game and that night I got a unicorn. I also had an Equestrian Center placed as well. However, I wasn't getting any strays or wildlife of any type on my lot or anywhere else. Unfortunately, I still haven't figure out why I cant get deer, racoons, wild horses to spawn, but if you put the dog park and cat jungle in your game they will spawn cat and dog strays.  I heard that Bridgeport has a lot of errors still in it ei.  from not being able to complete the simbot challenge that comes from getting level 10 in Inventing to having routing issues with traffic. There may be some kind of problem with wildlife and strays spawning as well. But at least doing what I mentioned seems to help with the stray problem and unicorn issue (but really not a problem now we can acquire pets anyway we want now).

I read that because Bridgeport is zoned as a city that it is not meant to have wildlife. There is a little number in the coding of the world somewhere that sets a world as normal, city or holiday destination. For example, you have to have a world zoned as a city to get the food truck to drive around (or use a mod). I think the opposite is true for wildlife. Thankyou for letting us know about the lots though! It's helpful to have someone confirm that it works!

Interesting. I switched Buena Vista Resort to a Fishing Spot and after two nights, still no unicorn. I was just ready to move on. I changed towns and got a unicorn in the first week! This is working out much better for me.

It is because Buena Vista Resort does not have a "place to fish" on the lot itself. That is the reason I copied a 40x40 lot from another town and placed it there.

Ack, it was the closest I could find. The rules just said I could change a lot type. Really, I'm okay not being in Bridgeport. My new practise is going very well. I got attached to my Bridgeport practise family and I'll still play them, but it was just not working for the race and that is totally okay with me.

Yes, I responded. At least I thought I had. You obviously did not receive anything, so I shall do so again.

I am such an idiot I just realised I have been playing all my test games on normal lifespan and we have to play on long lifespan for challanges, right. This is going to be harder then I thought.

What's the difference between a blue ghost pet and a re ghost pet? (I've seen both colors)
