Bottom of options screen is cut-off
« on: May 09, 2012, 06:49:17 PM »
This is what the game is doing. It is cutting off the bottom of some screen items like on the options menu it is cutting off the bottom where the checkmark is.I have an Acer Aspire One 4GB laptop.

It might be the resolution? If I have the resolution set too high, it squishes up some of the writing in the dialog boxes. Even though I have the room for it, I still have to go 1 less option than I really could so it doesn't get squishy.

Thanks for replying chuckles.I cant change the resolution within the game cause I cant get to the checkmark in the options panel to do so because it is cut off.Is there another way I can change it?Is there a keyboard control button for the checkmark/confirm button in the options panel.Thanks.

Are you running in full screen mode or windowed mode?

I also have a 10 inch screen on my laptop if that might have anything to do with it.

You could try changing the resolution in windowed mode and by editing the options file in your documents/electronic arts/sims 3 folder. You change the text [fullscreen = 1] to [fullscreen = 0] and then a few lines down you can change the resolution as well.

There is a way to get hidden resolutions in Windows 7 by hacking the Intel GMA Driver and this way you can play sims 3 on a netbook without it cutting off at the bottom! In order to do this, you’ll have to go into the Registry Editor.

1) Type Regedit into the search bar or alternatively, press the windows key and R (Win+R) to activate Run and the Registry Editor should launch.
2) Search for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\
Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}0000
3) Scroll down to Display1_DownScalingSupported and double click.
4) Now change the field value to 1, press ok and restart your computer.

Doing this will allow you two new resolutions of 1024×768 and 1152×864. However I wouldn't advise being on these resolutions all the time, for example when browsing the web etc. But, for gaming and other programmes the resolutions are essential when using a netbook if you want the games/programmes full potential, for example, in the Sims 3.
