I Need Some Ideas!
« on: May 09, 2012, 12:41:28 AM »
When I was using my new pose packs I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if you could have a modeling career on the Sims. And, just today, I happened to stumble upon a tutorial on creating new rabbit hole careers by making a mod. I thought maybe I could make my modeling career wish come true. I need some ideas on what to name the different levels of the career. Like, you know how if you're employed in the science career, then level one is a test subject, level two is lab tech, and so on? Level ten for my modeling career should be supermodel, but what about the other nine?

I'm no expert on fashion or modelling but my Mum used to watch a lot of those Project Runway shows. I started with three in my head and ended up with ten, Lol.  8)

1 - Backstage Hand
2 - Advertisement Model
3 - Beauty Queen/King
4 - Last Years Collection
5 - Designers Pick
6 - Front Cover Glamour
7 - Runway Diva
8 - Fashion Idol
9 - Nationwide Dream
10 - Supermodel

No, maybe try looking at the careers on the guide and seeing what sort of average wages are for each level in the varying career. Or maybe base yours off the Stylist Career.

For me the back level is seamstress. The person who actually puts the items together. Watch certain movies about it (Sabrina on old classic, her mother was a wannabee couture. "The Devil wears Prada", the main woman wasn't fashionable; but, the movie gives ideas.
You need to know how to sew before you can advance in the couture game. You also need a sense of fashion (artistic trait) and a bit of Diva trait. Perhaps "born to do this" trait also works. For advancement, they would need a portfolio. No model can advance without photos of herself to show. I know, I had a friend that I took her photos (I did a lot of photography before) and she got a minor modeling gig with Penney's (a US store).

You know how you need certain skills to do better in your career? I was thinking maybe charisma, would a model need charisma?

I wouldn't think so, their job is to look good not sound good - if you know what I mean? It could be like the Business Career which doesn't require skills but you could see if you can incorporate 'Meetings' but make them into 'Shows' or something.

Charisma may work; but, from reading about models in the real world they all seem to be "party animals".

I'd think ambitious would be a good trait for someone in that career. After all, "it's a dog eat dog" career.

Charismatic yes!  I totally agree with ambitious (but isn't that true for all careers and I don't think it should be an requirement). I would select athletic instead, well  not muscular but cardio, since models have to stay thin. Some of the special work opportunities could be working out for x number of hours to increase work performance.

Another interesting thing would to make the level of celebrity important - if you are to rise to the top and become a supermodel you should probably be quite famous as well. Or it should at least give you perks.

However, consider which traits came with witch expansion - if you want as many as possible to be able to use your mod I would suggest going only with basegame traits as opposed to the diva trait or even the celebrity points.

And yes, you totally need a portfolio! Maybe one of the settings for work performance should be photo shoot?

My suggestions for the different level names (totally based on watching Top Model) and keeping in mind that being a model is about advertising new products...

1 - Walking Billboard (or a better named equivalent of handing out flyers for something)
2 - Mall Model
3 - Catalogue Queen
4 - The Face of....(insert famous Simmish product)
5 - New Face in Fashion
6 - It Girl
7 - Designers Pick
8 - Front Cover Model
9 - Runway Diva
10 - Supermodel

You could also go the seamstress route - but to me that seems as if that career choice should end up as a Couture Designer not a Supermodel.

Wow, seems I'm more invested in this that I originally thought  ::)
